I’ve used the 06 zoom extensively since purchasing my used copy a few months ago. The keys to sharp photos with this lens, keep the aperture wide f3.5 fo 4.5 is the sweet spot and use fast shutter speeds. My Q7 doesn’t show significant sensor noise until past ISO 400 so shots in medium low light at 1/500-1/1000 sec. are easy to obtain. I bright sunlight, I use the built in neutral density filter to keep my aperture at F4-4.5 and shutter speed at 1/1000th-1/2000th at the lowest ISO possible.
One other very important point, use a lens hood. I bought a 40.5mm to 49mm step ring and a metal 49mm standard lens hood for less than $20 US total. The hood really helps avoid contrast loss due to sidelight.
