Agree with the B&W for these shots - really neat with the old signs.

Nice work!

The B&W really make the shots, a perfect environment for shooting B&W. This is kind of interesting It seems to me that the Q site has much more B&W postings than any site I visit. Go figure.

Thanks. I have limited editing available to me right now so I just reduced their screen size and left everything else the way it came out of the camera. I'm sure that PS could do "better" B&W but I really like seeing the LCD in B&W when I'm shooting. Just as a point of comparison here is one of the cars in color straight out of the Q.

Yeah, I really need to sit down with the manual so I can get that front dial to have a selection for B&W (if it is possible).

It's possible Stan, that is how I do it.

Go to Menu.
Camera 3 menu - top item = Quick Dial
Select by going down to it and pushing the right wheel button (the timer symbol is on it).
You have 4 choices =
Smart Effect
Custom Image
Digital Filter
Aspect Ratio
Choose Custom Image (second choice)
Push the down button on the wheel (the WB button) for each of the 4 choices.
Set each of the 4 choices by using the right and left buttons on the wheel to cycle through the options for 1 of 12 different treatments. B&W is the last choice.
When done hit the OK button.
You then choose which of those 4 (Smart Effect, Custom Image, Digital Filter, Aspect Ratio) you want the button to be operating. When in the Custom Image mode you have 4 different settings (5 really because the dot on the front dial allows the camera to be set through the main menu).
I have Bright, Natural, Vibrant, and B&W as my choices.

Enjoy.

Have fun. It really makes it easy to change a variety of settings quickly. I've been using it a LOT this week and while there are issues with the Q, speed of focus on the 02 lens, things like this little wheel and others make it a great camera.

What are you looking at
Great shots, I like the filters. I need to spend more time playing with those.

Good work with the BW. It fits the old cars. Enjoy your vacation.

Keep in mind that any fine tuning adjustments (contrast boost, saturation, etc.) you might have made for "normal" (dot) Custom Image mode shooting will also be incorporated into the front dial selected choice. Front dial selection does NOT revert the mode choice back to Pentax's default setting.

Cheers...M
Good to know - I will watch for that while I am experimenting with this - thanks!

Among it's many virtues, the Q is great for family snapshots.

Nice shot. I recently had a terrible time trying to capture image like that of my family. It's hard to keep a young one still.

What lens did you use?

Thanks, SonDa! It was the 01, which is so far the only Q lens I own, though I covet the 06.
