From inside a helicopter, messed with the contrast a lot through the window unfortunately

I checked your Flickr Q pics. You process Q-shots very, very well. What was your workflow for this one in particular?

Playing around with some new bellows and a ball point pen.
Great ultra-macro -- love the reflection off the ball of the pen.

Thanks! This photo really got me wondering about reflections and DOF and not being satisfied with some google search results I opened a Thread asking about DOF on reflective surfaces.

I love PF, and thanks to other members input, I learned a handy rule that on a convex mirror, you can capture the whole reflected image with a DOF no larger than 1/4 diameter of the mirror so in a sense when you take photo of smaller convex mirror the required DOF for reflection scales down Something like that anyway haha

Thanks mate.

Generally I try to process as quickly as possible in Lightroom. I almost always bump clarity a bit, more than usual in this case. Bumped contrast LOTS for this because it was very low shooting through the helicopter windscreen. Think I also dropped the blacks down a fair bit on this too, for some more contrast

That was it, I am a software developer, so sitting in front of a PC for even more of my day doing processing is not my idea of fun

Thanks for the reply. Best Q developing I've seen. Water is getting so low behind Hoover Dam that the inability to generate electricity may not be far off. I have to guess that was a helicopter tour ride out of Las Vegas. It's a very informative and clear shot under the circumstances.

Northern Nevada went through a cold spell this winter. Lots of the local ditches and streams ended up with a decently thick layer of ice on them as the water continued to flow underneath. The weather has been warming up lately and the upper layer of ice has been melting. There are now openings on the upper layer of ice. Here's a shot of a ditch near my workplace which is opening up. The image was captured with a Q and an 02 lens, of course.

I climbed down onto the shore of ditch and made my way to one of the holes where I proceeded to lower my Q into the opening.

That's a hand held shot with the ND filter on. The shutter speed was 1/10th but I wish it was lower to blur the water. I still like this shot though. Then I turned the camera around 180 degrees in the same hole and I saw this.

I'm not sure what was making the pine needle wobble. It wasn't touching the water but maybe errant water splashes were hitting it just right.

Bottom line: the Q is fun to use!!
Pine needle is moving because the moving water creates a micro-wind. Interesting shot.

It was taken in September 2012, we did a tour with Maverick from Vegas out to the Grand Canyon, then back over the strip at sunset. Expensive but well worth it. Can recommend them if anyone else is tossing up who to go with
