Starting to get the hang of this Q-S1 thang. 02 Lens, f/4.5. With some tweaking in Elements.

Dusting off the Q and trying it again

I just ordered some new lenses and want to try Q'ing again. I didn't get them yet but shot these yesterday with my prime using bold monochrome. These are not edited:

I have always preferred B&W for shots like the Gin glasses. Very retro mood setting. Nice work in capturing the different amount of moisture on the two glasses..

Leaving the glass with the unusual stem on the left to warm beyond the point of collecting condensation -- now that shows commendable self-control.

thanks Denny, I am a super novice. I shot that with an 01 prime I got with a Q that was not even made by Ricoh, it was that prior manufacturer. But recently, on here, I bought an 04 and 05 lens. I got the pair of them for 80 bucks delivered. I just tried them out tonight and they both work fine and I don't see what all the complaining is about. They are made in Thailand though. In addition to that, I bought an 03 on Amazon which also showed up today (also made in Thailand), so now I have all three toy lenses and also the 02 and 06. Since I was splurging on three toy lenses, I also ordered an 07 for about 58 I think delivered from Japan which I am waiting on. I got almost the whole set now and two bodies (both original Q's). So now I gotta get practicing. I take it that with the Q (I am noticing the absence of interest of late), its more about the picture/art and less about the pixel peeping so I am all set with these Q's for making art attempts and shooting for fun. In the case of this shot, its not like I 'tried'. I just was making these drinks and then 'saw' an opportunity and shot it in Auto and was in that Bold Monochrome mode. I noticed a lot of Q shooters seem to like that Bold Monochrome and I do to. I have to sort of relearn my Q as I stopped shooting a little while ago and have to revisit it a little with such things as setting the dial on the front with something useful (like the bold monochrome easy access). That info button on the back of the camera is nice. I like the Pentax menu system (I have four Pentaxes, an X-5, a K500, an MX-1 and 2Q's) so need to get back into using them. I find the Pentaxes easier to be creative with than the Canon's and Panasonics for ease of menu use.

Spinno, looks pretty crisp to me as the craters have edges on them. Handheld it is super awesome. F11? what was the shutter speed? Is F11 wide open on that lens? When I was a teenager in the High School I used to shoot B&W and develop in the darkroom. I still remember the vinegar smell and the red light in the corner, or was it yellow.

1/400 of a second on manual setting.
Wide open the lens is 5.5

Charlie, that 08 really zooms in there. That pink flower looks very sharp and close. Very Nice!

Yes. The 01 prime is real sharp too. Quality with this system - along with portability - is well good enough for level of sharing I engage in. :-)

I'm guessing that this robin's eggs are doomed by Darwin's Law; she tolerated my taking this picture, but left when I returned with my better lens. She also leaves any time I go in or out of the front door (in fact, this is the first time I've seen her actually sitting on the nest), and since she is closer to the garage door than to the front door, I'm thinking that wouldn't be much of an option either (and, no, we're not staying inside until she no longer needs the nest). This picture does show some purple fringing; I took it with a Vivtar lens that my mother left behind with her 20+ year-old Canon kit, and as I already said, she didn't stick around for me to go back for a newer lens.

My original intention, the reason I was going out the door, was to take this picture of spring flowers.
