Nice, John. Is that grain the natural luminance noise, or have you added some grain in software after noise reduction? It has a very authentic look!

Thanks, Mike. I didn't add any grain. I don't even remember doing any noise reduction, just a high ISO shot with high contrast BW conversion in Lightroom. I pay careful attention to the histogram when processing, particularly highlights which, although they may not be 100% white, don't carry a lot of detail in them. So I'm usually quite aggressive in pulling them back in order to recover some detail. To compensate, I'll often boost the exposure a tad or lift the shadows a bit to brighten the overall image. But on the bottom end, I'll take an almost opposite approach, foregoing some shadow detail in exchange for strong, rich blacks. It's the rich blacks that help the final image pop, even though I've crushed some shadow detail and pulled back some highlights.

Keystone 1/2" f2.5 Cine. Need to change the shims up a bit to get better critical focus.

That high ISO though. Jeeze.

Amazing macro! Excellent job aligning camera and subject to get so much of the interesting areas in focus.

Shots with the Q (original) during the Apr Pentax outing over here :
This is Dakota Crescent, one of the earliest urban redevelopment public housing in the country and very soon, scheduled for redevelopment to something that gets better revenue per sq_ft (an actual gov policy)

More from the outing.

Sometimes its just so refreshing to be just focusing on the fun of going out with a small portable system, no concern over DOF, ultimate IQ and all the weight of trying to be too serious over the photography.
