This is with the Q, 06 lens, very, very heavily cropped. Other than the cropping, no other PP at all!

Went to a local dog show to try out my new dual body setup. Had a Q7 + 06 and a Q7 + 08. So so indoor lighting. I had to shoot in shutter priority mode as the dogs kept moving around a lot. The 06 kept up pretty good only pushing the Q7 to iso 1600, but the 08 was making the Q7 push up to iso 2500. Most of my keepers came from the 06, while the 08 is a good lens, shooting dogs and trying to get the detail of their coats at iso 1600 and above is very difficult. I also shot in jpeg as I needed the burst shot for the dogs. It really felt that I was pushing the Q7 to its limits.

My heart melts when I see these dogs.

I'm happy with the 02. It's a very useful focal range. I'm not a pixel peeper though, so your mileage may vary:

Ouch - My Arm!

This time of the year, the gnats around our summer house are quite small, but also quite many and definitely quite blood thirsty:

What a fantastic shot! The 06 + the 10D close-up works very, very well! Ugly little critter!

I haven't had any chances to use my 06 plus the close-up lenses, as no bugs are really around here yet. Your shot certainly has inspired me!

Yeah it's all with the 06, which is the best lens in the system for portraits. I sometimes crave a bit more dynamic range and all that but for what it is, this camera is fantastic and it definitely has great glass.

To all Q owners, may I ask up to what size a digital file did you ever printed using your Q? I am looking for a smaller camera that I can use whenever I go out with my family and lugging a DSLR is somewhat burdensome when you are also carrying a toddler who does not want to talk all of a sudeen (i.e. zoo, park, mall etc.)

Thank you.

Thank you Carol. Actually, this may be considered rather a "proof of concept", because I didn't want to spend a fortune on a "pro" close-up lens (such as for example the Hoya two-element achromats) to begin with and just bought a cheapish Chinese set of single-lens uncoated filters to see where this would take me. I am quite surprised myself of the outcome, but there are some weaknesses with these cheap filters: Pronounced Purple Fringing in high-contrast situations and a sligtly lower contrast than I would like to have in this type of pictures. Fortunately, both are very easily corrected in post-processing. A slight after sharpening has also been applied to the image shown.

We each have our own shooting style and this may be irrelevant for others: I prefer taking macro shots in nature hand-held. (The idea of dragging along a heavy tripod also somehow defies the idea of the Q as the ultimately portable ILC system). However, I do find it much more difficult to get a steady grip on my Q10 than I do on my K-3 and the small pixels of the Q and Q10 (cannot speak about the Q7 and QS-1) are rather merciless in amplifying any operator caused motion blur in macro situations. Therefore, with the 06 lens plus +10D lens, I use Manual mode at 1/2000s and f/8 and then light the scene with the built-in flash - even in broad daylight. Depending upon the reflectivity of my target, that flash will usually further need dampening somewhere between -0.7 and -2 EV.

What courage -- to admit using those po'-mouthed close-up filters.

Someone hurry up and send CSA some bugs.

[They're my choice over bellows and extension rings for practical field expediency too.]
