I'm trying to get back in the habit of taking my Q with me even when I don't have any specific photo-taking plans in mind.

My Gypsy peppers are so colorful this year, brighter than any years past. The Q7 02 really captures that vibrant color, and its size allowed me to get the camera down below the leaves to really get close.

Pentax 02 Standard Zoom for Astrophotography

OK, perhaps more fun than 'serious', but I just got the iOptron SkyTracker and couldn't resist trying out my Q10 with the Pentax 02 Standard zoom.

Here, at 56 degrees North, nights are still rather bright and only so-so dark for a few hours after local midnight, but even under my light polluted skies, the Milkyway is becoming visible again. Now then, can the 02 lens and the Q10 sensor also "see" it?

The Milkyway above my head (in Cygnus, the Swan):

Pentax Q10 with 02 standard zoom at 5mm and f2.8: 30 second single exposure at ISO 800. DNG file developed in DCU5 and post-processed in PhotoImpact X3.

The Milkyway closer to the SW horizon:

Pentax Q10 with 02 standard zoom at 5mm and f2.8: 30 second single exposure at ISO 1600. DNG file developed in DCU5 and post-processed in PhotoImpact X3.

To me, this is quite an impressive performance of the 02 lens - more so, when I pixel-peep the original, coma is very well controlled.

And the Q10 sensor? Well, there is some amp glow at the lower leftt, but still, I am definitely going to pursue the Q10's deep-sky astrophoto capabilities with adapted lenses once my skies become darker again!

Good proof that the 02 lens is indeed a very fine one (in the right hands, of course)
