rmcnelly & wolfiegirl: You guys are squeezing the very last IQ drop out of that tiny 1/1.7" sensor! These images are far more impressive to me than what comes out of a full frame camera! Very impressive images & post processing! (^o^ ) <3

Congrats on your pic that was in Explore! It has nice depth and really smooth bokeh.

For the sunset picture, I think the limit is the sensor, not the lens. Only so much dynamic range can be pulled from the RAW files. I believe you could salvage this if you don't pull the shadows/blacks up so much, or reduce the exposure and brighten the whites/highlights.

Thanks

Hrmm ok. I assumed it was the lens, since it's an old russian with mixed reviews.

I might try and redo the pp and see if i can get a better result. Wolfieboy saw the pic and wanted me to print and frame it. So if i can get it done without noise, that would be awesome.

Yes, the lens itself won't contribute to noise. I do think you can salvage it. If your efforts don't seem to work, put the RAW file on Dropbox or something, send me a link and I'll see what I can do with it, and I'll send back the Lr settings used.

Finally decided to get the Pentax 08 zoom.
Nice wide angle in a small package.

Actually, they're all pretty interesting. Lots of antiques there. Stuff you don't really see too often here in SoCal. There's more history where you're at. Those pictures of the jukebox also look pretty neat. The B&W plus the grain gives them that old-skool nitty gritty look to make them even more interesting. Sometimes I'll shoot my K-50 at a higher ISO on purpose, just for that effect.
