Musée des Beaux Arts, Lyon

There is a trend in European museums to allow photography without flash. The downside of this is that the curators feel that they have to over-illuminate the works, often with LED lights. In the case of paintings, shadows from the frames, plus WB issues, make for a tricky subject. Detail, rather than the full subject, has to be selected to avoid the worst of the shadows. Stained glass is easier to capture in its glory.

The Coronation of the Virgin by the Maestro Santa Clara de Palencia (late 15th Century) was largely in daylight. The image of St George and the Dragon (Grasset & Begule, 1889) was backlit. Q7 and 01 prime:

Musée Lumière, Lyon

Boy did I offend the gods when I suggested that many museums were over-lit. A couple of days later here I am making a pilgrimage to the Musée Lumière, Lyon, and the place is about as well-lit as the inside of my suitcase. Step forward Q7 and 01 prime...

The Lumière brothers once manufactured millions of photographic plates here including, as early as 1903, the very first "autochromes" . The factory was demolished in the late '60s to make way for an urban renewal project which never materialised.

This cute jumping spider deserves a crop. I'm perpetually runing after the jumping spiders. They are difficult to find (here).
Some of them are really tiny, and I then try my hand at the macro reproduction ratio of 2:1 (1:1 minimum) with a lot of trash...
I'm also trying multiple flash diffusers and haven't found the ideal yet.
I need more spiders, for more tries…
No Pentax Q of course, a viewfinder is essential.

This larger than life size fiberglass (?) elephant is behind the Jane Street station of the Toronto subway. I have no idea why.

I recently relied entirely on a Q7+02 Zoom to document a scientific tree-measurement expedition in NY's Adirondack Mountains to explore a previously unknown old-growth forest site. I managed to get some nice shots in, even as documentation was the main intention.

Likely to be one of the largest white pines in the Northeast, pending full measurement with a reticle to calculate trunk volume. Largest in diameter of any forest-grown northeastern white pine at 5.1 feet in diameter at 4.5' above ground level.

Stitched image of my favorite tree from the trip, also an extremely high trunk volume for this species in the northeast, 4.6' in diameter at standard measuring height, as well as quite tall at 143.5' tall.
