I second Barondla's comments, Alayos92, beautiful shots.

Q7 with 02 Standard Zoom.
This is an old window in the ancient Yuelu Academy in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province. One of the four great academies in ancient China, founded in the year 976 ...

Christmas in the Colony

This is a shot of the overwintering gull colony in Lodmoor, taken in the evening Golden Hour. The lens is the lowly A70-210 f/4, which cost me less than £12, on the genuine Pentax adapter. I'm at the softer end of the zoom range, about 200mm (the zoom creeps a bit), but the equivalent focal length is over 900mm.

The birds stand dutifully still in the water, which helps, but to get 1/500th @f/8, ISO has gone up to 500 on my Q7.

Normally, the combination of a soft(ish) zoom and high ISO would not be a good one.

In PP, I have used the second version of Franzis' Denoise, which has removed the noise very well, though at the expense of some fine detail.

I have no fear of high ISO with my K-S2 - none whatsoever - but I've always been a bit wary of taking my Q7 out of "film range" (ISO100 - 400). It's early days for the Q7/Denoise pairing, but I appear to be able to get good results up to ISO800 or ISO1000. The push/pull zoom also seems to add a bit of "pop".

Does anyone else have a favoured solution to "push" the Q family into high ISO territory?

Thanks, Heinrich! I like this part of China. For me Hunan food is the best! 2017 I've been 6 times to China alone... and no visit there is boring (the time wasted at airports is boring, though ...).
Happy New Year to you and yours!

A couple shots from the last couple days- it's chilly out! Both with Q7 and 06 Zoom. My Q gear is for sale over in the marketplace- I've had a great time with it, but I need geotagging after all.

Awesome details on that titmouse, how did you get that close? Great shot!

Norbert, I like the quiet atmosphere of the picture. Isn't the place close to Hanover, and isn't it cold now over there? I've never visited this place but feel as if I should be looking at ice instead of water in January

kwb, the titmice and chickadees in that location (Kensington Metropark, outside Detroit) were incredibly friendly and curious. I had grabbed a low trre branch to inspect the buds (there are several oak species in that area that are unfamiliar to me) and the little thing just popped down onto the branch next to me. I actually had to back up a little to account for the minimum focusing distance.

Beautiful automnal colours, the brown of the leaves and the brown of the feathers ; You should erase the 2 spikes behind the eyes imho

Nice job dingo-by-the-sea. You have the Q-S1 and lenses performing at a great level. Keep on shooting.
Thanks,
