Hi barondla,

I have the 01 and 06 on order.Of course I am eyeing the 08 as well. I am actually so impressed with the Q's versatility that I would call it the Swiss army knife of cameras. Not particularly excelling at anything but more then decent in everything and it's always with you.
Both excellent lenses. The 08 is also great, but more expensive. If you like fisheyes the 03 is fun to play with. I have it and the Fuji that people are removing from decommissioned security cameras.

The toy wide also makes a good macro lens, but not an incredible wideangle.

Your train picture is super. portrays a strong sense of leaving.

barondla

Q7, the derringer of Pentax cameras

I take one of my Q7s everywhere. Every Sunday Tara, my bestie, and I go to breakfast and take her pack to the dog park. After that we go to the Kentucky Humane Society branch at Feeder’s Supply and check out the dogs up for adoption. She has over 10,000 followers on all her social media platforms and uses her media power to promote the adoptions of hard to adopt dogs, like senior dogs, bonded pairs, pit mixes etc. This particular Sunday there were 5 puppies there and they do not need to be promoted. I had my recently acquired Q7 in my pocket. So I tested the Q7 out on Minka. Not art but decent for the intended purpose.

Out and about - fun windmills

Took my Q7 and 02 lens out today. It was gray, overcast and dreary but I saw these fun decorations for sale.

Excellent image Phenix jc! Great colors and tones.

Image with new 07 shield Mount lens. F9 doesn't let much light in. Since there's no leaf shutter in the lens, electronic shutter speed is limited to 2 seconds (without tricks). So ISO 12,800 it is.
Thanks,
barondla

Thank you.

Your lens may not take that long. Ordered mine new from Japan on 1-11-2019. Said it would arrive 2-19 to 3-5. It arrived 1- 27. Came via USPS.

Can't wait to modify mine for infinity focus.
Looking for a workable lens cap now.
Enjoy your lens when it arrives.
Thanks,
barondla

Is it possible to cheat the Q and use longer shutter speeds?

My experience with Japanese deliveries has been quite positive. Once ordered an item on Thursday and got it Monday morning. How do they do that?

Yes, it is possible to extend the 2 second exposure limitation of the electronic shutter. Set camera to jpeg and multiple exposure. Set multiple exposure to 9 shots, shutter speed to 2 seconds and fire away. If the camera is on a tripod and the subject isn't moving the 9 shots will accumulate more light than a single 2 second exposure.

It is also possible to set the ISO higher when using multiple shots. The grain is random from shot to shot and much of it cancels out. While the subject is static and "intensifies". 9 shots at ISO 1600 is comparable to 1 shot at ISO 200. Try to keep ISO as low as possible since the Q noise reduction aggressively reduces sharpness at the higher settings and can't be turned off.
Thanks,
barondla

Wayside Christian Mission Homeless Shelter Pet Care Night

Tara and I went down to the low barrier homeless shelter last night, the night when Dr. G, a veterinarian, volunteers to care for the pets of the homeless. Routine vaccinations and medicinal care is provided at no cost to the pet owner. My Dog Eats First funds the program through donations. Tara did a Facebook LIVE cast interview of the volunteers and some guests for her 10,000 social media followers. This low barrier homeless shelter permits people with pets to stay there temporarily.

It’s an environment where a DSLR might be too intrusive and “official” looking. So I brought the Q7 with the 01 Prime instead of my K-01 w/ the 21 Ltd or DA 35 2.4 I usually tote as my discrete camera. Somehow I had managed to fumble around and change a digital color filter to bold and the color photos didn’t look good. I converted to mono in post. Better.

I cannot remember the cat’s name but hearing Chris, the homeless gentleman, talking about his 7 year old dog Lucky while Dr G trimmed Luckys toe nails, was uplifting in an otherwise depressing environment. It’s sobering to realize how many are one serious illness, accident, unfortunate break or bad decision away from living in the street.
