Cross posted to Astrophotography -once in a life time challenge Jupiter and Saturn " double planet " - PentaxForums.com

"Great-ish Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, Dec/22/2020" by k kwb, on Flickr. Pentax Q7, Orion Space Probe 3 (700mm f/9.2), ISO 200, 1/15 sec, stack of 88 frames out of 681 I made on that night. This was one day after the great conjunction (thus the title). Seeing wasn't good but much better than the previous day.

I also took pictures on Dec/21 too when the planets were the closest, but the seeing condition was so hopeless that I only got one sort-of-reasonable frame out of 972, and that's this one:

1st image is darn good. It is a shame the atmosphere wasn't cooperating. The next frontier for consumer drones will be when they can leave Earth's orbit

Q7 Macro with SMC-A 50/2.8 Test

I think I found my Ideal macro setup for two to six inch subjects and my Q7.
Q-K adapter, Velbon Dual Axis Macro Rail, SMC-A 50/2.8 Macro and the IR remote release. Electronic shutter used. ISO 200
Photos have not been sharpened, just a simple levels adjustment in Photoshop Elements 12.
The SMC-A Macro on the Q7 provides its best images at f2.8 to f5.6, after that both test subjects loose sharpness due to diffraction because of the tiny Q sensor.
*My tests with this A50/2,8 Macro lens of my K-5iis show best results at f5.6 and f8.

Tree-snowman photos are a 50 percent crop wit the tree as the original center of the frame and the snowman at right f2.8, f4, f5.6 (diffraction began at f8 in this set)

Bottle labels photos are un-cropped f2,8, f4, f5.6 (F8 was also very good)

Q-7, Q-K Adapter, DA*50-135/2.8 @ f5/6 135mm
Both processed with Topaz DeNoise AI and adjusted and cropped in Photoshop Elements 12
My primary birding rig with a DSLR is better, but for a tiny sensor camera and an adapted zoom lens, I think it is a respectable result, especially handheld!

Thanks barondla, I just wish that some of us on PF had a better condition, so far I haven't seen that. Well, at least I got to see the event, that was better than nothing.

Handsome birds murrelet! Chickadee seems to be better in focus, is it just focus, aperture or something else?

That's pretty good Kris, both the picture and the advent calendar (did you make it?).

murrelet, steamloco76 and Kris, if you can cross-post to Adapted lenses tested on the Q : the reference thread - PentaxForums.com that would be appreciated. I don't see Auto Rikenon EE 200mm F3.5 (is that M42 screw mount?), DA*50-135/2.8 nor K 55mm f/2 for any camera in that thread. I don't see A 50/2.8 Macro for Q7/Q-S1 either.

At this point I don't think there are many active Q series users, but there are some (as evidenced by this thread) and updating the reference thread once in a while is probably still a useful thing to do.

thanks,
kwb

Probably a combination of high ISO, misfocus, unstable tripod on soft ground, and really old lens. I was also shooting to JPG instead of raw for the faster write speed.

The Rikenon EE 200mm is an old M42 lens. The Q has become my wildlife camera so the 200mm lens is "permanently" attached.

I was playing with the QS1 and a corded off camera flash AF540FTZ. The cord comes out almost over the on/off button, however the shutter release button is still easy to reach. I tried double stacking the adapters to use 2 flashes, however both flashes were ignored in that configuration. It was fun zooming the 02 lens and looking at the flash zoom to the 5mm setting

Thank you very much murrelet, the master table on Adapted lenses tested on the Q : the reference thread was updated.
