When I took my Mars photo in 2014, I took it when the Moon was at it's closest point to earth. If I remember correctly, it was the closest Mars had been in the past decade. I also got lucky that it was a cloudless night in my backyard.
I tried getting a shot using my Celestron Dobsian telescope but found that my photos through the eyepiece was a hit or miss and when I did get a hit, it was a little blurred as the telescope kept moving via the tracker motor. I had better luck with the K-mount Q adapter and my old 70-300 Sigma K-mount. I remember that I had to keep moving the rig due to Mars going out of frame from it's movement in the sky.
Just curious 2old4toys, what setup did you have on your telescope?
