I'm no birder, but I thought it was time I stretched the legs of my new Pentax Q-K adaptor.
Q + DA*300 with +1 on the aperture dial, at a range of about 40m:

And to set the scene, this was taken with the Q-10 and 02 standard zoom set at 8.8mm (ie pretty much "normal")

The Q also transforms the already close-focussing DA*300 into a true macro:

That's the ticket! And the macro looks great too, hadn't realized the *300 could do double duty. How far away from the camera in the macro shot?

Thanks Larry.
The "macro" was taken at the DA*300's minimal focal distance - just under 1.4m.

Here are a couple of recent ones. The weather was very overcast so not the best light. They are taken with the da 55-300.

Better light definitely helps, but a great effort nonetheless. Extra points for the Kingfisher (right Stormtech )

Difficult exposure looking toward the setting sun, so it isn't as sharp as I would have liked.
I could barely see these guys with the naked eye, and it was pure chance I caught the bat-like behaviour.

DA*300 with +1 on the aperture ring (f5.6)

Lovely ones! I forgot their name, do you know it? I see them every time I walk into one pet store, beautiful birds. Here at home we got a pair of cockatiels basically free rooming in the house.

Ah Lori! Though it wasn't the same species as the ones I get to see, but a relative.

That's a better shot than I have been able to get of a Kingfisher, good job

I put the DAL 55-300 on the Q today and was pleasantly surprised it's a trace better than my Tamron 70-300, in all my testing the 2 were about even. I had to stop the Tamron down 2 stops. The DAL only needs to be stopped down one click on the Photodiox adapter so it allows faster shutter speeds. Hand held with LCD eyepiece hood. Today I got a Hooded Merganser, White Ibis, Snowy Egret, Blue Heron and a Grebe

Moon + Q tonight. Veeeery tiny shake, because of hand-held but leaning to wall. Whole frame with Sigma 150-500 @f8, ISO320.
