Moon + Q tonight. Veeeery tiny shake, because of hand-held but leaning to wall. Whole frame with Sigma 150-500 @f8, ISO320.
Good work - what was the shutter speed?

When I took this shot of a GBH resting at the park, I thought it would be a silhouette since I was shooting straight into the sun.
Instead when I looked at the viewfinder I was surprised that the bird actually looked like my eyes saw it, almost like an automatic HDR shot.
The dynamic range of the little Q sensor is pretty amazing.
The second shot with the iphone shows the conditions, the bird is just left of the park bench.
I shot in JPG, I wonder how much better the picture could turn out if I shot in RAW?

Lovely shot as always Crew! The Gray Heron we got here is one of my favorite birds to watch, truly stunning despite being simply gray.

Wow Larry - some good proof the lens hoods really work!

The EXIF says 300mm - I'm assuming this was with the DA*300?

Also, are those bugs flying around the Heron, or something else from shooting into the sun?

Actually, if you saw one next to a Great Blue you might have a hard time telling which was which. The two species do seem to be universal favorites -- such elegant birds.

This one's so well exposed I don't think you'd get much extra from RAW.

DA*300, ISO 125, F5.6 1/250. Yes those are little mosquitoes or gnats, the place was full of them. Big swarms near the lake.

Thanks Baro-nite. Since I use the Q for family stuff too I keep it on JPG, but I'm thinking I will dedicate the second one to just birding and I can start trying out RAW to see how it goes.

While we're on moon shots, here's one from two days ago. K9-K5, yours is upside down

DA*300. Slight crop and some sharpening/contrast in PP.

Awesome photo, lens and photographer. You drive at wrong side of the road-> so your moon is wrong also.
Just kidding.

I just tried to take photo again, but it's over -20 celsius below freezing now. My finger's just didn't cope it. Metal body was so cold...
