Which lens did you use to do your testing?
DA* 300. Would be worth checking with some other lenses, particularly from other manufacturers.

Taken a couple more in the snow on a cloudy day giving better light shots from about 60 feet, usual minor adjustments and less than 50% crops resized down..

Those look real nice dc. The colors and contrast against the snow make them really stand out.

A bit of a cross post but I tried to shoot the moon with Pentax Q + Kenko 1.5x PzAF + DA* 300mm F4 and wondered why I couldn't get eve slightly sharp pics. The video I made shows why, heavy turbulence.

Great video VD, I would guess it's the jet stream causing the turbulence . that's a steady tripod. Great job.

What time of night? I'm curious as to how much this effect lessens as the night progresses.

‏‎00:41, I gave up shortly after as the got fainter and fainter due to some weather high up in the sky and I think that the weather shift is what shows in the video. That's how it has been the last few days, at first you think the sky is clear but soon you realize that it actually looks like vaseline.

Thanks! Video is way more forgiving than images for Astrostuff and I must say that I really like the Q for video, more than my K-5.
Edit: I had to vacuum the internet for Royalty Free music that fit the video and finally found two songs I stitched together to make long enough audio.

Baro-nite's experiments with the TC's and now VisualDarkness video with the Kenko inspired me to go out and test some cheap 2x TC's that I had laying around with the DA*300 for around a 3300mm eq.

I only had a chance to do a quick test with a reluctant night heron but the results look promising.

Our weather will not cooperate for the next few days but in my next session I would like to compare this setup to the Bigma.

One question I am wondering about is since I am starting with a 5.6 f stop on the DA*300, does adding the 2x TC bring me to a f11 aperture?

These samples are not cropped, I did a little bit of exposure, sharpen and clarity adjustments in LR4.
The Heron was not cooperating but I could not stay and try more shots as the electric company was putting cables up and I was asked to leave the area for safety.

DA*300 alone
