Understood.
But I wounder, would you be willing to post a 100% crop comparison between the two photos above?
I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the Q7 being so superior given that the Q10 should have a lot more pixels on target.
Here are the Q first, then the Q7. The differences in magnification are apparent.
Since both are shot at f5.6 on the lens, the Q probably loses some sharpness because diffraction occurs earlier.
The wider pixel pitch on the Q7 lessens diffraction effect and allows a bit more detail to be retained.
They are both straight out of the camera, some PP could be used to improve the Q shot.

I do not usually crop my Q or Q7 shots except for framing/composition, the natural crop from the small sensor is typically more than enough.
I think paired with a good lens either camera will serve it's purpose.

Again I do not have experience with astro photography so your results may vary.

Awesome Moorhen capture, Blythman. Nice detail with a knock out background. Image quality holds up great at ISO 640. Well done.
thanks

Weather has been terrible in the midwest, US this winter. Did get this image of a Turkey. Not bad considering it was shot thru a picture window at a 45 degree angle and it was warm in the house but cold out doors.

Q/Pentax DA*300/Pentax adapter and RD10 reddot sight.
thanks

Great stuff guys, Thanks for the comparison shots Larry,

Blythman nicely done I like the shot,

barondla, I have shot a few Turkey's with my Q but not as well as you did this one. The turkeys I have seen were way to far away and I had to crop.

These are cross posts from the 300+ thread, all using DA*300 and Q7 with Pentax adaptor.
ISO 100, f5.6, shutter speeds varied.

They are amazing! It's quite ironic that "pro's" and proclaimed experts call K-lenses on the Q a waste of time and proclaim cropping instead, while you and others provide proof of its usefulness time after time.
I've been thinking of getting a Gimbal for my shooting with the setup. Right know I got a big Feisol Ballhead. What do you think?

Thank for the kind words VisualD!

I tried a ballhead initially but felt it was a bit hard to manage when I wanted to make small adjustments in a particular direction.
Panning was fine but tilting was a bit unwieldy since there is so much overhang and the adjustments needed are very tiny and if I loosened it too much it would just fall over.
Even the cheaper gimbals help, because if the setup is balanced properly you can keep very slight tension and can make minor adjustments and the lens stays where you put it.
You could even go part way and put a sidekick style gimbal on your ballhead.
I now use a PromediaGear Tomahawk on a smaller tripod when I don't feel like carrying the larger Katana.

Sounds like I need a gimbal in the future then. Thanks for the feedback!

Had some fun with the Q + Adapter + M135mm f3.5 lately. Here are the results:

I had my Sigma 150-500 with a solar filter on it at around 300mm. I need a better tripod than that one I got at Best Buy for 35 bucks.

pretty cool, what filter are you using? I imagine it was a bit difficult to find in 86mm?

I'm using a sheet of Thousand Oaks solar filter material that I cut down to fit an 86mm UV filter. It works really well. I do plan on a hydrogen alpha filter next, but that's going to hurt. Alot.

I got a Sigma 500mm f4,5 APO (first version), Nikon mount, here on the Pentax Q with a Kiwifoto G adapter:
the subject also explains why I have issues taking pictures of birds in the garden.

Now 2 images of the set-up taken with 75mm on a APS-C sensor:
