had my Q ( with 01 + 02) for about 3 months now, took well over 3000 photos + number of short movies, just came back from Europe ( not much sight seeing just Family matters ), had just Q with me in there.
well....did not really miss my KX or K7 or Canon SX20 most of the time much, but I did miss reliability of AA batteries and my Sigma 10-20mm and 17-70mm on some occasions.
we desperately need fast wide angle prime or zoom for the Q soon!
took 3 batteries, on some day-photo walks - run out ( !) , not good, that should get improved.
in Singapore, overcast with just over +30C taking photos with some occasional very short videos, the sensor overheated ( !) .
never ever happened to me before with larger Pentax DSLR's and in temperatures +40C and above, must be the small metal body needs more frequent cooling down times.
took 01 + 02 with me, used 01 98% of the time, good fast lens + just could not be bothered to keep changing them.
composing , framing and focusing in a bright light is very challenging, you need to trust the came and your instinct at times , but hey it is part of fun and the deal.
nevertheless, excellent camera, excellent design, build and functionality!
thanks God I am not with Nikon, they had a TV comercial in Europe about new Nikon 1, always one step before you, if I was a coffee expresso I would made perfect cup even before you would have a time to press the button.
if I was a toy I would make your child smile before it would start crying, but I am a camera, and would take a photo before you even fully press a shuttle , I am one step in front of you I am the new Nikon 1!
well, well well instant magic!
on the other hand, there is absolutely no Pentax promotions or advertising here in Australia and in Europe which is not good!

Several years ago, I picked up a Panasonic LX3 - f2 wide angle lens 3x zoom. It does very well, has pretty good manual controls and is small along with being compact. Sensor is good, until you pass ISO 400, and I believe its the same sensor size as the Q. I have always thought that with interchangeable lenses, it would be even better.

So, I do think the Q will work, however not at the current price of $800. A month or so ago, there was a post here that - I think it was QVC had them for $235 (a pricing error). Now that is a wonderful price. I saw it, went to the site, and almost pulled the trigger. I had just bought a K5 and my wife would have questioned my sanity - well she does any way at every opportunity.

I have kicked myself several times since then. For traveling, the size would have been perfect. I was just traveling last week and it would have just been a drop in.

On the topic of the K-01. I do think that Pentax got this pretty right - for once. The $750 price when compared to the K5 is very well positioned. However, when compared to the Q - it does not make sense - other than its small and surely is must be worth more thought process.

Anyway, I'll wait. I doubt if I will ever see a sub $300 price again, but if so I will not hesitate...

One thought - the Q with a one way cell phone (and a custom LI battery), coupled with Facebook. The kids would eat them up. Take a image and have it go to your facebook account automagically. Push the higher quality coupled with the interchangeable lenses, easy to use interface.

I dont know what world you live in, I spent my young adult hood in the air force, wanted to travel they sent me to florida, from one coast to the other, I know females I could of been on jersey shore if I wasnt puerto rican. And a camera no matter what kind of camera it is = pervert/weirdo to anyone who knows nothing about photography... SO if you ever plan on getting laid leave the camera bag at home when getting females...

Every now and then some Sweet Young Thang looks at my K20D with the DA18-250 or Tamron 10-24 attached (with hoods) and says, "Ooh, I bet you take good pictures with that!" Too bad I'm already spoken for, eh? Whereas if I whip out my Q-size Sony DSC-V1, nobody much notices. And I just get odd looks (and sometimes finger-pointing) if I'm using a 6x9 folder on a tripod. Draw thine own conclusions, eh?

A few years ago my Tucson Arizona sister gave me a beautiful handcrafted rare-wood 6x9 pinhole camera, built by an expert local wood-butcher. Where the hell did I put that?!?!? It would be... interesting... for a light show.

No it wouldn't, it would suck, nothing but blur. I need 120 Velvia 800 to stick into my 1930 KameraWerk G&T (ancestor of Exakta) Patent-Etui 6x9 with Meyer Anastigmat Trioplan 105/4.5 and Compur shutter, yeah baby!!

Of course, for the film-averse, there's the Frankencamera approach: Cut a 6x9 lensboard. Attach a male PK mount, like a wide-flange M42-PK adapter. Slap that onto a dSLR or MILC. Use the folder as the digicam's lens. Easy.

Ya I would expect the ending photos to look like something a blind person would create on a lite brite, lol.... FINE ART I SAY!!!

EDIT: I think you think I meant light show as in the lights on stage, no I wanted to do a pinhole of a somebody doing a light show in the camera with light gloves, the face would be stationary but the hands would be flowing with lights...

Let's see, a good pinhole should be about in the f/160-f/200 range. (My Lens-In-A-Cap pinhole is a 45/180.) You could get there using an f/2.8 lens with a ND6 filter I think. Or a lens at f/11 with an ND4 filter. Something like that. Just set a long exposure and keep moving, eh?

I don't think it's a failure, as I don't think the K-01 is a failure either.
Pentax is well known to be innovative and both K-01 and Q are just the first cameras of new series. I am pretty sure the next K-01 will have a hotshoe viewfinder capability, and the Q a bigger sensor and more dedicated lenses.
The fact that in your own country isn't sold, doesn't implies that Pentax failed. Far east markets are perhaps big enough to make a camera profitable for Pentax, even though it didn't sell super well in US.

I was at the airport last month and had the chance to see the Q in flesh: oh, boy, that's quality! Seriously, it feels solid! As a comparison I had a look at a Sony NEX beside it, and THAT one was pure... plastic. With a totally different feel.
Touching the Q gave me the impression of feeling the same solidity of my ME super.

I actually doubt that because the price of the whole set won't be that attractive.
Same situation that we are now in, if you want a viewfinder with the K-01 you can get the Kr for less or go the the K5 for a little bit more.
