My Q Just Arrived!!

Hi everybody,

My precious was delivered just 10 minutes ago. GREAT GOOGLYMOOGLY!!! what a complete wonder of technique in such a beautiful body (yes I am talking about a camera). Can't wait to start shooting but have to be patient in staring at the green dot of the battery charger. The manual speaks about 115 minutes charge time max... That's around the Magic Hour light outside. And I do see some sky clearings. As you might have already discovered...I am slightly EXCITED

Anyone tips for presets for my first shots. Using the prime 01....

Hear from you guys,
HAPPY!!

I feel your pain. With the price dropping to 300 in the UK and all these posts of people finding out how amazing it is I can't help but cry at my meagre bank account balance. The DA* 16-50 was worth it though...

I'm really interested to see how the Q performs with K-mount lenses via the adapter. That's a ridiculously high pixel density, I'm wondering whether it'd be good for nature shots?

Look at snostorm's post for natures shots of K mount lenses. He's done a lot of work with them. I've also shot with the Q and q mount lenses and have some posted in the forums here. The Q is very capable with K Mount lesnes, but there are a few shortcomings that will hopefully be fixed with the Pentax K-Q adapter as well as maybe firmware updates.

My preferred combination now is the 02 zoom with a wide angle teleconvertor which gives an effective 14mm wide angle. The only thing the Q lacks is larger DOF effects at distant objects.

That problem is fixed with a 25mm lens on the Q, so far I know of 3 really good ones but they all are pricey but they have a cheap c mount on ebay. You got the Pentax cosmicar 25mm 1.4 CCTV lens thats super popular (its a multi coated CCTV lens with swirley bokeh), you can get a Kern Paillard 25mm 1.4 C-Mount on ebay, or go the expensive route and pick up a sonnetar at japan camera hunter... None of these have auto focus but if your playing with DOF effects you should be using manual focus anyways... And on the road map pentax has a tele prime in the works which will most likely work like these 25's with a sharp and shallow DOF and will have auto focus. Its why I mentioned the cheap c-mount one on ebay its a 1.4 and it's like $40 - $60 and can hold you over till the tele prime comes out. So for DOF effects I use a SLR Magic which is 60mm equiv and the Sonnetar which is 135mm equiv...

So, bmonki, sorry to be ignorant but which one is the cheap c-mount 25 you're referring to? Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheapo 25mm

Not so cheapo multicoated pentax c mount

If I didnt have the Sonnetar I'd get this one

just need a c mount adapter and your good.

EDIT: And if you have the money I would suggest getting the sonnetar
