Box from Adorama

Man I love getting a box with B&H or Adorama plastered all over the side of it!! My new Pentax Q has arrived!! Along with extra batteries, 2 lenses, and I think I got the leather carrying case too. So want to tear into the box right here in the work cubicle and start charging the battery. But might do an unboxing video with it at home instead!

Looking forward to sharing photos with you! If you have any tips on features, filters, settings, etc to share for an initial setup, please let me know. I have a K-5 so the basics will not be challenging it is just some of those "in the field" hands on little tweaks that are always good to hear about from other Q users.

Congrats!
I find a pol filter useful, especially when used in combo with the Q digital filters.

I also have the k5 as well as the Q. I find myself using the Q more and more but I do miss the high IQ of the k5 when looking at the photos.
I bought my Q just after the k01 came out as I thought to myself what an ugly camera the 01 is, but now Im kind of rethinking the k01. I really like shooting with the Q but miss the K5 image so Im thinking maybe the K01 might not be such a bad idea after all even if it is kind of ugly and feels like a brick. (yes iv been to the camera store to look at one in person an its a brick) Or should I just wish for a Qll mmmm. Anyways I bet you'll find the same thing, the Q is such a cool camera to shoot with your K5 will get jealous.

Congrats pghwarrior23. The Q is very addictive. So much fun. Enjoy it.

tips:
1. Do firmware updates on body AND lens.
2. Activate magnified view for manual focusing (in focusing menu).
3. Never close #01 prime kit lens down smaller than f4.
4. Try to keep iso at 400 or lower.
5. Use software that supports lens corrections. Supplied Silkypix and updated Photoshop/Lightroom.
6. Never leave home without an extra battery!
thanks

....and never leave home without the Q, I do not!
I use my old Sony Walkman black pouch to protect it from getting scratched in my pockets.
....and be warned, it is addictive  and as most addictive substances , very enjoyable

Yes, the Q is addictive. My K7 keeps being left behind. Now I have started using my M42 SMC Takumars on the Q too.

Congrats on getting the Q!! You will have many hours of fun. You will be amazed at what you can do the photos you can get if you did not have a small camera like the Q. Love my K-5, but I would have missed some great shots if only had my K-5 with me. My Q goes everywhere with me.

Sorry for not being back...been a busy weekend!! Finally got to do a decent amount of shooting with my Q yesterday at an event for middle school students. I shot with 2 K-5's as well. But it was nice to set down all that weight and just play with the Q for awhile. The kids really liked it and the leather Pentax case too. I shot mostly with black and white and contrast filters added to give me something different than I was capturing with the K-5s that day. Also shot some video with it that looked really good. Can't wait to look at it on the computer screen. Can't really comment on how I like the photo quality as I have not yet looked at the photos on the computer but hope to do so soon.

I made one of my front dial presets to be black and white with high contrast. Curious what other presets you really like and think are worth adding to the front dial quick sets?

It was commented earlier to never to close the prime lens down smaller than f/4. Do you mean f/8 or do you mean don't shoot it wide open at f/1.9? I was shooting with it wide open the whole day. Also played with the fisheye lens a little but not nearly enough.

I did download the firmware. Is there different firmware for the lenses than the camera? How do I know what I downloaded and what firmware needs to be used? I never heard of firmware specifically for lenses before.

Just got my extra batteries in today. They were back ordered from Adorama. Glad to have a couple of backups now for full days of shooting perhaps this weekend!

I also really like the Pentax leather case...but really wish it had a belt clip or loop on it as I would rather carry it that way than via a strap.

high contrast b&w is the only filter that I use, its pretty great for straight off camera results

if you grab the BB code result from the flickr share option, you can paste that straight into a new post!
