It looks hard as nobody seems to want to export it here and the only store that got them in their product range has them "out of stock" and doesn't seem that will ever get them.

I believe Barondla was running a Tasco initially, you might ask if it is this one Cabelas Canada - Optics - Binos-RFs-Scopes - Red Dot Sights/Scopes - Tasco 1x30mm .22 Red Dot Sight
There is a Tasco one available at Canadian Tire.
I am not sure if it is the same as described by you guys, and also what seems to be the same one at Cabelas:
Cabelas Canada - Optics - Binos-RFs-Scopes - Red Dot Sights/Scopes - Tasco 1x30mm .22 Red Dot Sight
Tasco Red Dot Scope, 1 x 30 | Canadian Tire
And of course, I have no idea whether this would work with the X-tend a sight, from Photosolve.

I've been using a Tasco as my main Red Dot for photography for about 8 years. They make two different versions with a 30mm reticle, but I think they're both the same sight, with different rail mounts. Originally, they made two different grades -- one for centerfire rifles/pistols, and shotguns, and a lighter duty model for .22 rimfires (because they have much lower recoil) -- with the smaller rails for the .22s. I think that now, they just make the heavier duty sights, and market them for both. I also think, but am not sure, that most of these have dual purpose rails -- they will accommodate either 7/8" on one side or 3/8" dovetails flipped.

Recently, I purchased a couple of inexpensive Chinese models to experiment with, and am using them, mainly because they are a bit smaller and lighter and seem to have better battery life. I've also used a very inexpensive and very light duty Daisy (or might have been Crosman) for BB guns, and this worked as well. Absolute precision is not much of a factor, the idea is to get the subject in the viewfinder. I have my current one sighted in for my DSLRs. This puts the dot about 1 foot high when mounted on the Q, I haven't changed the elevation on the sight, just aim it 1 foot over, and get the bird in the VF, at which point the sight becomes irrelevant.

Hi Scott, I just posted some links above regarding a Tasco brand red dot sight.
Is tis the same as what you had?

Thanks guys,

JP

Bummer jpzk. My Tasco is the bkrd30. It works fine and is made well. Just not as convenient. I love the Pentax stretchy string lens caps that are clear. Never take them off to use sight. Probably could get those for the Tasco.

Don't give up on the Pentax. Doesn't any other country sell sell Pentax red dots? How about Hong Kong?
thanks
barondla
I just posted two links in the above posting, so I wonder if that would be the one you mention ?
And of course I browsed the Web quite a bit in search of a possible/alternate country (including Hong Kong), to no avail.
Thanks,

JP

I think the K-01 is going to become the 3rd body I shoot with.
Because the K-01 takes the same battery and is a brick-shape, it fits within a small left-over-area of my camera bag. I LOVE shooting with 2 K5s and I think the K-01 will become the third option.

I may go back to Lake Louisa this weekend, so if any Florida Pentaxians get wind of this, maybe they will see me out there.

This looks like my Tasco. I would get it and if the Pentax ever appears consider adding it. Wonder if there is any money to be made in legally importing these to Canada? Hmmm. Need to find a paper work wizard.
thanks
barondla

ps do you know any Canadian hunters that come to the US? They could always mount one on their gun for the return trip.

How can you possibly have "a small left over area" in your camera bag? What bag do you have?
thanks

Hi JP,

Yes, that's the one -- as I stated, the rail clamps might be different, but both clamp sizes will fit on the Photosolve Extend-a-sight.

Here's a pic from almost 4 years ago on my K20 with the big glass

LOL...I'd post a pic of it here, but then it would be a thread-jack.

When I shoot in the USA, and local, I use a custom-modified wagon to take my gear around.

I've taken that wagon, and modified it to be the ultimate photographer wagon that goes with me everywhere I can wheel it! It fits in my Nissan Rogue and is small enough to go places where there are handicap ramps and such - which is pretty much everywhere.
