But one would use a 300mm f/2.8 for the DOF or else a F/4 would be a better choice

I don't mind the extra DOF though but i would like to see some faster lenses for the Q to compensate the smaller sensor and the high ISO noise.
If they can make a 8mm f/0.6 lens for €800 then the camera become quite a bit more serious.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone buying a 300/2.8 for DOF control, except for a few pro level sports shooters who liked the ability to get better subject isolation. I believe that most originally bought the faster lens so they could more easily shoot night sports events under lights though (faster AF performance and faster shutter speeds/lower ISO).

The most common reasons are:

So they can extend their shooting earlier or later in the day and to dark overcast days (low light)

To get extra f stop headroom to use TCs

To get those "he must be a pro" comments

I agree that faster system lenses would be great for the Q, but after the flood of "it's just too expensive" reactions at the Q's introduction, I imagine that Pentax got more than a little gunshy, and I really can't blame them.
