I find it kind of funny that going without an anti-alias filter is becoming all the rage (Nikon D800E, Pentax K-5IIS) the interchangeable lens camera that led the way was our own original Pentax Q.

The purported D800E won't be the first camera lacking an antialiasing filter, also called a low-pass filter. Medium-format camera products from Phase One, Pentax, and Hasselblad don't use them, because they're geared for professionals who know how to handle moire in software if necessary. Some unusual cameras such as the Pentax Q and the Leica M9 also forsake the filter.

OK, the Leica M9 beat the Q to it, but it's $5999 for the body alone and lacks the Q's impressive 5.6x crop factor.

So prospective K-5IIS OWNERS... WELCOME TO OUR WORLD.

The higher your sensor resolves, the less there is need for an AA-filter.
Now, project the pixel density of a Q to an APS-C sensor... looooong road ahead .
