Q Discontinuation in wake of the Q10?

although no official word has come down on this topic, it seems that the original Q may be discontinued soon - the best evidence being that (as far as I can tell) it is not listed as a current model on the Pentax Japan website:

PENTAX RICOH IMAGING

perhaps someone out there who can read Japanese can help us out on that, however that's how it looks to me (it is on the Pentax Japan web store, though)

It was probably nearing the end of it's product life anyway, but I wonder if anyone asked this question at Photokina. Was the original on display there?

does anyone out there know anything definite? I was thinking of getting a second Q body, so perhaps they'll be clearing the Qs out soon...

Considering that they're priced to sell at B&H, I'd guess that yeah, they are being replaced. The new Q10 is only about $100 more, though...that's a nice change compared to the original pricing scheme!

The Q is still on the Japanese site, but I agree with you that they are probably clearing stock to discontinue the Q... Even though the Q10 is improved, I'm glad I got the Q...

I do see a link to the original Q at the bottom of the page, but it's not in the line of products at the top - I thought that perhaps that was the list of current products... but yes, I agree, I'm happy with my Q, and if I got a second body, it would probably be the original Q and not the Q10, but only because of the metal body.

I do support what I consider to be the idea of the Q10 - lower the price to widen the user base - but I prefer the metal construction of the Q...

The Q10 isn't magnesium like the Q?

nope - specs from the pentax website: "Construction material(s): Reinforced polycarbonate plastic"

PENTAX - Q10 Silver

but I could be overreacting - maybe it doesn't really matter, I'd just prefer metal.

Man, that bums me out. I love the feel of the Q. Like a tiny jewel in your hand, built to last.

The white version is still available but how are people supposed to get the 01 Standard Prime?

Dealer says Q/01 kit can not be ordered from Pentax USA at the moment. Only the Q/02 zoom, and two lens kit are available. Trying to decide if I should get another Q or the Q10.
thanks

We have the white, FYI, I'd buy it again. Still looks brand-new, despite quite a bit of use.

I do love the Q metal body. Nearing 6000 shots on mine. Can't find out how many shots the electronic shutter is good for. Worried that the new Q10 will have better image quality. Then there will be a trade off between build and image quality. Arghhhhh. don't do well with trade offs.
thanks

I have a black one. Would probably make next one white to have a matched set.

Will it be better if samples of Q10 are posted? As far as I know, there is no Q10 available for testing as yet. Seems the sensor is the same, not too sure about it though.
