Nice! Didn't know the DA*200 was a macro lens. How do you like it for distance shooting, and how is IQ vs DA*300?

Its not. I typed in wrong lens. I have A*200 manual focus macro. Few times I have used it for distance shooting it has done well. It kills the purple fringing Canon FD 200 macro I have. Not really optimized for distance so it can't quite match the DA*300. But how many lenses do? Would love to see results from a DA*200.

Nice shot...

Looks like a Checkered White... somewhat abundant in the Mid-west, I understand, but not found in my area. The BF season ended for me with a Mourning Cloak on 21 October. Winter seems to be settling in, here. The K-5 paired to the DA*300/4 is a good combination for BF-ing... will try a Q/300 combo next Spring.

Thanks for sharing... M

Thanks Michaelina2. Has been cold here the last few days ( low 40's). Was surprised to see butterflies out this afternoon. Saw some other types. Maybe I can post some later. Have used the 300 and K-7 w Kenko extension tube on butterflies. Works very well.

You will find the Q fun for butterflies. It gives s much working distance. Great addition to the bag.

Hi barondla,

Nice work!

I think that for butterflies, most modern telephoto lenses will work as they have short MFDs, and AF with a DSLR is a good bet since speed and long working distances are two nice things to have.

I'm envious of your A* 200 f4 Macro since it's one of those elusive "legendary" lenses. I had a chance at one about 4 years ago (EX cond @ $1000 from KEH), and passed, but have kicked myself numerous times since, especially looking at the prices they're demanding now. . . I settled for a new "open box" Sigma EX 180 f3.5 Macro for $600, not a legend, but I have not been disappointed in its performance, especially for the price. . . It's not in the same class as the Pentax 200s, but it controls PF better than any other lens I own, and that's saying something.

I'm anxiously awaiting the Pentax K2Q adapter to shoot more macros with the Q since I prefer handholding with flash as a technique. I'm pretty confident the Q will be the way to go. . . my A 50 f2.8 Macro, D FA 100 f2.8 Macro, and Sigma 180 are waiting in line. . . Unfortunately, the D FA 100 PF's pretty consistently, especially with the Q, so I'm considering upgrading to the WR version since it seem less prone to this from what I've seen, and it's even a little lighter, which is a definite plus since the weight was a major factor in my choosing it in the first place.

Another great shot with the Q (10).

Do you find any (obvious) difference between the images you are getting with the Q10 vs. the Q ?
Any one or the other better ?
