My Q and A (Adapters)

Ok so in the mail today I found a seaweed green packet and as I picked it up a curl appeared at the corners of my mouth much like when the grinch had his life changing epiphany. It had to be my K and my C adapters. I opened the package and pulled out the two boxes and yes my life was changed. The first thing I did was put the 40mm pentax-m pancake on to see if it fit in my retro PU leather case and yes very snuggly it fit I shot some samples and then all of a sudden my room was a shambles of M,K and M42 lenses strewn about. I figured I would start a new thread as I have LBA big time and why ...Because the old lenses are what I call "Character Lenses" and the Q is like that perfect talk show host that brings out The true personality of each lens...so begins the chronicles of Q&A.

Heh heh - you are in for some fun. At some point someone should start a list of what lenses cooperate well with the Q and adapters.

First off I am going to give my impression of the most conveinient way to use the K adapter Handheld with manual lenses.
1. Use M mode
2. set the camera to auto ISO
3.Use focus peaking don't use focus multiplier if you dont have to.
4. Use dial to set shutter speed to about 1.5X the actual focal length of the lens you are using so 100mm=1/150
5. Cradle the lens in your Left hand taking the weight off the body and adding stability.
6. Use your right hand for camera control
7. antishake on

I think this is a great way of assuring you avoid camera shake as no photo editing software can fix camera shake. It also allows you the freedome of adjusting your aperture without worrying about shutter speed diving to unmanageable depths. Lastly the Q to me has very esthetic noise and even if you get noise it's charming

Ok this lens like many of the old lenses has a problem with purple fringing when bright background is present. In this shot there was very slight blue green fringing in a very small range so it was very easy to remove using Pixelmator hue tool. I plan on taking it out on the next sunny day I get I will likely do some photos from a highpoint to prevent fringing.

In my brief experiments with moon shots, I discovered that longitudinal CA is actually helpful for focusing on a high-contrast edge -- zoom in and watch the edge go from green to magenta; pick the spot in the middle. Well done on the shot with the 400, that is huge magnification!

Here is a really noisy example because of poor lighting. 50mm(70mm equivalent) on KX vs 400mm on Q(2240mm eq) Again no cropping

What I want to see is a Q slapped on the back of an FA 600/4. I'm only half joking ...

We saw pictures and read reports of it on the new 560 at Photokina Seemed to work rather well from the reports.

Saw that, but at f/5.6 the Q won't get the best out of that lens. Hence my wish to see some samples from the 600/4. I cannot imagine ever buying one, so it's more theoretical than practical for me. Also, it would be very funny.

Sliver-Surfer, how do you like your case? Do you find the PU leather holding up well?
