Yep, couldn't believe it when I saw that price. Reportedly sharper than the DA*200 even at 200mm, f/4, and I'm hoping has less LoCA. Of course the DA*300 is also at an excellent price and I was torn between the two, but I think the zoom will be really handy on the Q. Again, I think the DA*200 is an excellent lens, just not the best match for the Q.

Yes... the 60-250 has less LoCA than the shots you posted, at least mine does. Pretty hard to get it to show up at all!

(I hate LoCA in my bokeh!)

EDIT: and now you have a tripod mount for the Pentax Q to K adapter!

I just ordered the 60-250.
Now wait a minute--you seriously want me to believe you made that purchase as the result of this test?! I don't think so. Nice try!

Yes Dave, it was an entirely rational, reasonable choice on my part.

More samples. Both of these with the DA*200 on the 1.4x-L Rear Converter A, lens wide open (for an effective 280mm f/4). Sharpening taken just a bit beyond standard capture sharpening, with some color smoothing noise reduction applied. The first is uncropped and the second was cropped to 3200x2400 (about 80%) before resizing. I have not done any correction for lateral CA, so the purple fringing on the sign lettering is the full amount. Both shots ISO 200, 1/1000 second.

Lens balanced on my knees; obviously this was from pretty close range.

This was from much farther away. Camera resting on a fleece jacket on the ground, shutter fired with IR remote.

Really, they are two very different lenses in that range. Not just the max aperture, but they have other, intangible, (cough)...uh...errr... really apparent differences! So, this means baro-nite should have both, and learn their particulars so he knows when to use one or the other. You know, like 50mm lenses, or fishing lures.

That's it!

This is getting to be ridiculously fun.

DA*200, 1.4x-L converter, Pentax adapter Q on original Q. Stopped down half a stop. Resting on beanbags, fired with IR remote.

37.5% crop.

Nice! I think with a little care it can do the job. Lets see how much it gets used when the 60-250 arrives
