There is probably as much metal in the Pentax tripod foot as the whole 3rd party adapter. My RJ adapter foot lasted a few weeks before it was toast. It took new, longer screws, and liberal amounts of JB Weld to fix. The metric screws are so small in diameter that Lowes and Ace hardware don't even carry them. Only Menards had them in my town. As snostorm points out, you still would't put a heavy expensive lens on it. A light 300 zoom is about it for my modified adapter..
thanks

I will also say the Pentax version is *seriously* engineered.
If you look closely it's a serious bit!

I spoke with the nice lady at the Pentax parts department today about the Pentax K-Q adapter and sourcing the tripod foot.
She knew exactly what I was asking about, (seems others may have been inquiring.)
She indicated the tripod foot for the adapter will be available first of the year.
She has a good amount of stock on order but due to holidays will be a couple of weeks before she gets them in.
Price will be $46.65 plus shipping.

I know a couple of folks are looking into making their own, so hopefully this helps in determining if it is worth the effort.
larry do you have a picture of what it looks like..thanks, amy

As far as I know it is the same foot used on a DA*300. Lauren uploaded a parts diagram a few posts up.

I can try to take a picture when I get home tonight.

You only need the foot if the lens you are trying to attach does not have its own tripod mount.

You won't need it for your 500 or Bigma or DA*300.

Edit: looked at your list more closely. Not needed for the 60-250 or 70-200 either. You do have lots of toys!

Yes, and helping one spend one's money as well.

Is the DA300mm tripod foot same as the A* 200mm f/4 macro tripod foot? Can they be used together?

I have a F*300mm f/3.4 but don't have the tripod foot. However, I read from somewhere here that the tripod foot of the A*200mm macro can be used with my lens. And the diagram that LaurenOE showed looks similar mechanism. But not sure about size.

Thanks!
Sunny

I forgot to do this. In the picture below the foot shows the clamp mechanism, one tooth is fixed and the other moves in and out with the screw.
The teeth fit into the slots on the barrel of the lens.
The adapter has the same slots.

The DA*300 tripod foot is nothing like the A*200 macro foot. The 300 is a foot that dovetail clamps to the rotating ring on the lens. The 200 macro has a partial cradle that screws into the rotating ring on the lens with two large finger screws.

Just to add some trivia. . . the F* 300 f4.5 has a similar foot to the A* 200 Macro, and IIRC, the A*200 Macro foot will fit on the F* 300, but not the other way around. . . or I might have this backwards -- so this is unreliable irrelevant trivia that probably couldn't be useful to anyone because the lenses are rare and the tripod feet for them being offered alone is an almost not-existent occurrence. . . -- Yes, I do have too much time on my hands. ..

You can already buy them in Japan (and have it shipped to you). Of course, that doesn't mean the US office knows anything about this...

I had a company in Hong Kong reverse-engineering a knock-off foot, but then read crewl1's announcement that they were available officially via Pentax US for ~$45, and my manufacturer and I agreed it wasn't worth the effort for the eventual price (would've been ~$50). It's still cheaper to buy and ship them from Japan!
I just received my tripod foot ordered with the above link from www.rakuten.co.jp.

It took less than 2 weeks from order to delivery in the US from Japan. Total was 4,610 yen ($50.05) including shipping and fees. Foot was listed at 2,962 yen ($32.13).

Original Pentax Retail packaging. Item 38100, Tripod Foot for DA*300mm. Bar Code: T4549212218385.

My Pentax K to Q adapter will arrive next week.

I just received a call from Pentax Parts that the tripod foot I ordered came in and will ship tomorrow.

The rep indicated that she may have a couple that are not spoken for so just posting in case anyone is interested.
