sigma 500mm view on k5 and q

i think people still stuggle with the drastic distance change with the q and the normal k5...even after using it for awhile i still go wow when i look at the true comparison...i did it on a tripod this time and tried to replicate as much as i could...details on flickr but will try to add here too...low light conditions when i got home...the k5 shots were autofocus and the q manual...iso 125 on q versus 160 on k5...shutter speed the same 1/25...iso f8 on k5 and setting 0.5 on the pk adapter...also took pictures with the iphone to show view..birds on flood wall behind bird bath

Is it possible to change the focal length on the lens without manipulating inputs on the q (or resetting parameters) and still have decent IQ ?
Which inputs are you referring to?

Thanks, I was surprised by how well this lens performed on the Q.

Whoah 6664 equivalent?! The stacked TC's probably don't give the finest quality out of the camera but a litle PP and you will have a very usable shot. Good experiments!

Great shot - you may need to start a thread for challenge to find natural Q's in the world

Mamiya-Sekor 135mm/f2.8 M42 Auto

Mamiya-Sekor 135mm/f2.8 M42 Auto
$5 in the local camera store used bins. Original 55mm metal lens hood w/factory UV filter found buried in used lens hoods. Tried 105mm 5.6 yesterday and very soft. 115 today and getting better. Does anyone have a suggestion for tripod support for these older m42 Q combinations? Fotodiox m42 adapter. Another work in progress.

SMC Pentax 645-FA 75mm f/2.8

I posted about this in the MF thread, but it should be here as well.

The SMC Pentax 645-FA 75mm f/2.8 seems sharp enough for the Q. (Of course, it's probably Pentax's sharpest 645 lens (same as the A version), possibly excluding the new made for digital ones, so this is not terribly surprising.)

It's fine at f/4 and f/5.6, acceptable wide open and up to maybe f/11 (where it is naturally softer than wide open). (Quite a bit of PF wide open though.)

These are at 5.6 and 6.7, but not because of any great thought going into those choices. (Full size available on flickr.)

Edit:
And here's one at f/2.8. Not showing the PF, but gives you an idea of sharpness and DOF (at closeish focus).

Sigma 150-500mm HSM OS (Lil' Bigma)

Finally got a couple sunny days and decided to test some lenses on the Q on a local osprey that sits on the top of very tall flood light towers. I was quite surprised with the Sigma 150-500mm @ 500mm, wide open at 6.3. This was 1/400 at ISO 200. Full frame jpeg, SOOC. I forgot that I had it in jpeg mode, so no RAW processed image. I also did some HD video with the same lens, link is below.

Google /Picasa has changed the URL, I guess. I can get the link to appear, but no preview. Anyone know how to insert a Google/Picasa link that will display in the post?

https://plus.google.com/photos/114648824731546075349/albums/5729596022009942...LPZ_Yy_uK3k1QE

Here is the video. The set up was very sensitive to the breeze.

I also tested some older M lenses. I will add results later, but not nearly as acceptable.

Great video catching the osprey behavior. At 2750mm a sturdy setup is definitely needed as any slight movement is amplified.

The only input that has to be changed if you zoom (change focal length) is the focal length setting for Shake Reduction and you can be off quite a bit on that and still get a good image, If I don't know what focal length I will be using I will set the SR at the mid point of the zoom. I try to be more accurate if possible.
