Q10/JJFinance Adapter/Samyang 7mm F8

Well, this is the first lens I have put on the Q that does not seem to work. No matter where the focus is set at, it returns a strange and fuzzy photo. Here is the best one from it...

Well that sent me scuttling for my samyang. I think at the end of the day there is an enormous difference between wide open and f8 --- comparisons below. And I think it reacts badly to too much sky on the front glass- something that is very difficult to avoid with this lens.
So I suspect your lens is wide open.

It is apparently a lens you have to really work at to get a decent photo with the Q...

Have you checked it was indeed stopped down?

Yep, I was at F8. I will try it on a closer subject and see what it can do when I get time. Really not worth the effort on the Q though since there are so many lenses that DO work good with it.

The 7mm DOES take beautiful photos from my K10d though, so I was really surprised at how poorly it worked on the Q.

Helios 44m-7 58mm f2 (M42) on the Q

This lens has performed quite well. Nice to use. Used it mainly f2.8 to f5.

Auto Chinon MC 28mm f2.8

Early K-mount Chinon 28/2.8, before the uniform orange and green text was introduced.

I don't use this lens much on my full-frame SLRs (I shoot film mainly, the Q is my only digital camera) because the edge sharpness isn't great on these particular 28s (the earlier M42 and later PK ones are better) but on the Q10 it performs very well. All pictures handheld at f5.6, ISO400, uncropped with a little PP and sharpening.

More lenses to come.

Nice presentation. The apple feels like you could grab it and take a bite out.

Pentax super tak 135mm 3.5 (M42) on Q

Before I bought the Q I did some tests with my K30 to try and work out which of my Pentax 135mm was likely to perform best on the Q. This old super tak which I have used and abused since I bought it around 1990 blitzed the M135 and was just a little better than the SMC tak. It seems an excellent combo with the Q. I have noticed that its images have a real 3d effect compared to other lens I have been playing with lately. These images are hand held which is a challenge and an act of faith in the Qs SR which seems up to the task. All are pped in gimp.

Pentax S.M.C. Tak 35mm 3.4 (M42) on Q

Nice little lens to use. Some images (not included) show a poached egg-like bokeh which leaves things a little busy. I have used a continuous ringlight on the flowers just to highlight them a little.

Pentax Super Macro Tak 50mm f4 (M42) on Q

This is my favourite close up lens on the K30. When used in conjunction with a ring flash it creates a razor sharp image with a good difference in exposure between the the subject and the background. (This is because the ringflash is closer to the subject compared to say using a 100 macro.) On the Q sharpness seems to be there wide open in close ups but I noticed a large difference in apparent sharpness between f4 and f8 when I attempted a landscape. (not included). Handheld and continuous ringlight used. It gives a subtle boost of front light. pped in gimp
