Pentax Q, Olympus OM Zuiko 180 f2.8 at f5.6. OM adapter is felt flocked internally.

Not as good as the OM 180 f2 lens ( more PF), but still respectable.
thanks

Tokina-special auto 135mm 1:2.8

This m42 thread lens does alright on the Q. Moderately sharp. The butterfly was reasonably obliging but this was as sharp as I could get so I suspect closeup work is not it's forte. The handle was just a little further away.I felt it did the handle nicely and conveyed the tone/texture well.

E M C Automatic 1:2.8 28mm M42

I can't find much information on this lens. I suspect it is a rebranded Tokina. Does anyone know?
Anyway I have quite a bunch of 28mm lens and I am slowly working my way through comparing them. I was pleasantly surprised with this cheapy . The picture of the passionfruit flower against the light would challenge any lens. The contrast certainly dropped but it responded well to PP in gimp and a good sharp image was gained. (an area of the unimproved ex camera jpeg is cut and pasted on the result. I felt it handled the color and translucency of the flowers very well.

Pentax S.M.C. Tak 1:3.5/28 M42

This is a nice looking lens to sit on the Q. On my setup I have replaced the silly looking tapered adapter with a pentax helecoid tube and a custom made minimal length adapter. This blends with the Tak nicely. May be it was at the end of a shoot and I was running out of subject matter but I felt this lens wasn't as creative as the EMC I have just reviewed. But a nice result anyway.

Old Bob's (man's) beard (Not the clematis one). Hanging lichen that is come across in higher humidity bush hanging from the trees. Hand held this one yesterday while out tramping , no viewfinder loupe and no reading glasses and totally sweating and buggered from bush bashing. Surprised it was even marginally sharp.

thought it might be something from your own patch in which case I was going to send a go-bag and beg a sample....
However, since it is out in the wild-blue let's just leave it there as is my preferred desire.

Pentax M 50/1.7 on Q

Haaaaa everyone has forgotten the great old workhorse-- the M 50 f1.7.
Here in NZ they are in the US$40-50 area.
I was quite surprised with the results. The sharpness was not as good as my 40mm 2.8 and it was hard to nail the focus. Still alright though.
( Edit. Just noticed there is a particularly big difference in sharpness between f5.6 and f1.7. More than most lens.) Wonder if it is my example.
(the bee and the digger are 5.6 or thereabouts and the poppies are wide open)
Wide open the bokeh has that poached egg look which made for results I liked in the Romneya flower but may not be to everyone's taste.
Stopped to 4 - 5.6 it tended to be a little busy.
Overall it was quite a creative lens - ironic for an old precision workhorse
The first flower image has a typical Q bonus-- a cute little fly cruising in. Seems to often happen!

Pentax DA*300 on Q7

Time I finally got these up here since I have been using the Q7 almost exclusively for adapted work.
I use the Pentax adapter and shoot at f5.6, ISO 100 with M mode and use shutter speed to expose around -1 ev.

Setup and distance shot for above at https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/136-pentax-q/173602-reach-q-images-57.html#post2537633
Upon review I may have used ISO 200 above.

Great shots, Larry. A 'standard of comparison' for the rest of us to try to approach...

Tripod? Hand held?

Thanks!

My good shots are all tripod mounted, using 2 second delay to minimize shake.
I keep trying to remember to bring my remote but I never seem to have it when I need it

Crewl1, the wireless remote is tough to remember. Mine lives in the pouch with the Pentax RD10 reddot sight. It has one of those elasic lens cap leashes on it, that wraps around the reddot. I just pull it off the reddot when it is needed. Works for me so far. Now if I could just remember to turn off the reddot!

Thanks

Sigma 70-200 OS on Q7

Same settings on these as the other lens, M mode ISO 100, f5.6, shutter speed to achieve -1 ev.
Pentax OEM adapter on window mount for these two shots, 2 sec delay.

Nice stuff Larry, that little hummer almost looks like a fish, the tripod really helps with sharpness I can't get that good hand held. That osprey looks like he is looking at you as prey.
