Chart updated, cunesk8, rendition, jacobsr, guys could you please add some additional mount info to your posts, in some cases the info is lacking if it's a C, CS, D or other mount and what was required to get it working. In the chart all are listed as "other mount" but if someone is looking to adapt a lens the additional info would be helpful

Thanks

Carl Zeiss adapter to the Q

Well I don't know the mount of my lens. It's a 32mm Carl Zeiss lens that was in either 3M or ABDick/scott Microfiche or Record Processing machine. I can't recall for sure. Most of the machines were scrapped and probably long gone. But the lens could have been used in many other applications so good luck finding this type of the lens.

The lens diameter is 2 centimeters (.78"). The rear of the lens is threaded and it comes with ring type nut that screws into the end of the lens.

Since I don't have any of the (C) or (D) mounts I can't tell you if this lens can be mounted on them. What is the diameter of these mount? I like to know myself.

Best use is on Pentax DSLR camera body cap. The body cap can also be used on the K mount adapter to the Q.
All you have do is drill a hole 2 centimeters in diameter in the body cap, insert the lens from one end and screw-in the ring nut from the back of the lens.
It won't work directly on the Q because the sensor is very close to the lens mount, It will definitely touch. and considering the focal length you will need at least 1.25 of an inch clearance from the sensor.

If you're using 110 to Q adapter, you have to find a cap or something that fits the adapter, or have one made. I found a cap that goes on Walgreen pills container. The cap is shaped like a hat so it had depth for the lens mount and it fits the 110 adapter. It works but not very secure. So I'm always looking.

I'm sorry if the explanation is not clear, English is not even my second but third language. I will gladly answer any questions.. But it's easy because if I can do it, anybody can.

Jacob

Thanks for the info, it was quite interesting and I am sure it will provide others with ideas on adapting other lenses.

The link below provides info into C and D mount and most others. The flange distance info is the most important but if you click on the mount in the chart it will also provide thread sizes.

Thanks again for your input

Thanks also to cunesk8, & rendition for the additional info

Rainbow 3.5mm f/1.6 . Sharp image and much brighter than Pentax's len. No vignette wide open. Give about 19.6mm field of view. Len is C-mount and can be used on Pentax with C-to-D adapter.

Pentax super-takumar 35mm f/3.5 on Q w/ Pentax K-Q Adapter

Informal testing so far my 35mm Takumar is significantly better (at infinity) than 50mm f/4 (macro K)** and Vivitar 100mm f/3.5 (macro PKA)**.
The following are 35mm Takumar, on original Q, w/ the Pentax K to Q adapter. The lens aperture was used.
-- 100% crops of f/3.5, f/5.6, and f/8
-- the full view at f/5.6
Used heavy tripod w/ 2 second timer. Minor exposure adjustment to the three pictures (to make exposure essentially identical), and then convert from Raw to JPG. No other pp.
---------------
** Ignore my statement about Pentax (K) 50mm f/4 and Vivitar 100mm f/3.5. I was comparing several shots all w/ lens wide open, and did not realize it.

Flange focal distance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oh yes the flange distance is crucial, and thanks for the Wikipedia link. Great info.

I did some measuring on this 32mm Carl Zeiss lens. The flange focal distance is about 17 to 18mm.
According to Wikipedia it might work on C mount Bell & Howell. If the diameter and thread match.

But then the focus point will be about 2.5 feet away, not a real macro, and with no focusing ring is kind useless. You need more space from lens to sensor, and like I said it's best to use K to Q mount. It will work beautifully.

How to mount CS-len onto Pentax Q. You will need a Pentax Q's HARD PLASTIC body cap (being sold on ebay) and you will need to cut/drill the entire red-line diameter. CS-type lens WILL NOT WORK with C-to-D adapter because the focus distance is shorter. Once you cut it, add superglue to attach the body cap to the len's body.Shown here is the $11 Ultrak 3.5-8mm f/1.4 mounted on the Pentax Q. It can do close and infinity focuses on both zoom end. It has 19.6mm to 44.8mm on full frame, essentially makes it a Wide-angle zoom len. Again, notice this is a CS-mount len, not the regular C-mount len

Picture samples of Ultrak 3.5mm-8mm f/1.4. Overall vignette on 3.5mm and no vignette on 8mm and it has less constrasty color when taking in-camera. I attached some sample photos. Recommend to be used with Bold Monochrome mode in-camera, otherwise you will need to do some post-processing with color to bring out the contrast. Not bad for a cheap zoom len though

Hi jacobsr. always ebay. I'm always looking for cheap/good deal. I got all three Arco-cine lens for less than $30. Though I think I'm about to be done with looking for D-mount len as I collected a few and I should take picture instead of hoarding lens

Anyway, here's a picture of the Arco-cines.

The 6.5mm f/1.4 does not vignette BUT it has this weird corner blurring at wide-open aperture that I have not seen anywhere else with my other lens...Other than that, very good cine 8mm lens.

Also, we have a tiny group of Pentax Q on facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/1384395448506058/

I also did a detail post on one of the D-mount len Votar 38.1mm f/1.4 that I converted to C-mount that can dual mount on both Pentax Q and m43 (Olympus EPL5) and can reach infinity focus.
