Pentax Auto 110 24/2.8 at f 5.6

This is the smallest among pentax 110 - lenses. It was stopped down using self-made "aperture" cut from washer material plate (rubber) and glued to the end of the lens. Another washer was used in front of the lens as a shade.

I just started to use the lens today, but it is really promising! Adapter used has Pixco brand name on the box, but I think the same item is sold under some other brands also (with "PTX110-P/Q" printed on them).

All photos below are jpg's from the original Q camera I made today during cloudy weather. First 3 were not cropped but were sharpened after resize for the web. Following 5 pictures are 100% crops with no further PP.

The last one is from the corner, the fourth one also from the nearby of the corner/not so far corner of the image.

Pentax 110 50mm @ F/4

On the Q7. The 50mm f/2.8 with an aperture mask to reduce the aperture to F/4. ISO 400. Nominal PP and cropped to 25-35% of the original file.

Albinar 2-in-1 Lens Tele zoom 1.7x/0.4x Wide angle

The Tele doesn't work so well but, the fisheye is a lot of fun. It was a $12.99 with free shipping on ebay. Using the 5-15mm zoom you get a complete circular fisheye. Wider than the Pentax 03. Holding this up to the 03 and shooting results in a smaller circle.

Kern-Paillard Yvar 13mm f/1.9 AR Visifocus vs Yashica Yashinon 13mm f/1.4 (Q7)

I'll probably sell one of these lenses (in addition to the Wollensak-Revere Cine Raptar 13mm f/1.9 I've decided I don't like as much). Need to do some more in-field use before I make a final decision. Photos taken on a Q7 @ f/5.6, ISO 100. Interestingly, the meter read 1/100 for the Yashinon but 1/60 for the Kern-Paillard. Each image was color calibrated using profiles for the respective lens. Other than that, no other post-processing from the RAW files.

My thoughts:
  • Center looks great for both
  • Edge and corner sharpness favors the Yashinon
  • Vignetting favors the Yashinon
  • Barrel distortion favors the Kern-Paillard

Full-sized image here in case you want to pixel-peep.

Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 1:1.5/25 - C mount

Use this lens with a generic C mount adaptor. Luminous one, beautiful colours. As you can notice, focus was very difficult for me, I am not that experienced. I like the results but I have to work more.

Orion Spaceprobe 3 telescope, 700mm f9.2

It was a beautiful morning without much wind and cloud.
I saw this American robin on the electricity line from my back yard and got my Q7 on Orion Spaceprobe 3 telescope (700mm, f9.2 wide open). This is straight out-of-camera without PP.

(Update Mar/30/2015: Added the telescope name to the title.
Adapter info: Fotodiox Q-C adapter and Solomark 1.25" barrel to C adapter.)

Fujian 25mm F1.4 with 1 Ext Tube C Mount

Mine came stock with an extension tube. Decided to test it out at the gardens today. All taken with a Pentax Q.

Stopped down to probably f2.8ish?

Stopped WAY down, maybe F22?

These are all straight out of the camera.

Canon EF 50mm F1.8 II, Q7

This is again too impractical for daily use but I did it anyway just because I have this lens.
Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II, aperture set to 5.6, RJ EOS-Q adapter, shot on a tripod with a remote. About 50% crop and resized.

Canon EF 50mm F1.8 II is a cheap decent prime lens that doesn't have an aperture ring. There's no way I can change the aperture while it's on Q7. I set the aperture to 5.6 by mounting the lens on Canon camera, setting the aperture, and dismounting while depressing the aperture preview button.

I saw these American white pelicans yesterday on my way home from work, so I brought my Q7 and Canon lens with me today. I got some purple fringes around the birds when the focus was off, but this shot was not bad. I wanted to stop it down more, maybe F8-ish, but I didn't have Canon camera with me. Wide open it would be unusable for me on Q7 due to heavy purple fringing even though it's good on APS-C.

Pentax 110 18 mm at f 5.0 - 5.6

Both were taken with the original Q at around 25 cm (MFD of the lens). The lens was stopped to f 5,0 - f 5.6 using self made rubber "aperture". DNG file converted in Raw Therapee, I used also Topaz Detail. This lens is easy to focus and seems really capable. I definitely have to buy the genuine Pentax macro lens fo this one!

After trying 24 mm and 18 mm lenses I think Pentax 110 lenses are very good options for Pentax Q (small size, very light, optical quality, easy focusing, affordable price...).

So far we have Pentax Q (the first) => Q10 => Q7 => Q-S1 (the latest). Can I check in order to fully utilize the crop factor of 5.6, Q and Q10 is the best to go, for Q7 and Q-S1 the crop factor will be 4.7 right?

Any of one will be good to pair up with the "Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter with Aperture Dial"?

Is this the correct and the latest Fotodiox mount to go with?
