As a long-time, satisfied user of the AD-2 SP lenses including the SP 300F/2.8 360A, 63B and 30A I'm gonna state that those lenses are as good as your technique with long FL lenses.

Yes, there's potentially more PF than some more modern DA* lenses -- but nearly all of that can be solved in post processing today. If you can shoot with one of the Adaptall SP tele's you can shoot with anything but there's a learning curve.

The good news is it's one you need for ANY tele lens. They'll humble you on the high MPS DSLRs until you learn to use 'em but then you'll have lessons that'll serve you well into the future -- but at 1/3rd the price.
Aye on the learning Curve; I'm still not sure if my 400mm Kitstar is soft or if It's just me being bad with it, and my TAIR-3 is certainly just me; Doesn't help that I don't have a tripod mount for it (Or the stock for the pistol grip...)

It was more that, with where diffraction is on the Q sensor, I figured there's much more room to muck about with those Adaptalls, and they generally sit in a nice middle range for price. All that said, I'm pretty confident that the TAIR will be okay as well...

Ah well, gonna keep my eye out.

Nice! Use the IMG link from Photobucket so the image shows in line with your post instead of a link.

This is a centralized reference thread housing a database of experience and results of different adapted lenses that users have tested on their Q.

Information that each Lens Review should have: description of your results, recommendations for best use, specific adapter brand or source that was used, and a sample image so a user might see what to expect.

To make this thread easy to search it will be important to put the lens name in the reply title (use the advanced reply,) that way a user wondering how their lens might work on the Q can do a search on title only and quickly get to the lens they are interested in. I think it is OK to have a lens reviewed more than once as different users may have different experiences and use cases.

Please try to minimize discussions here to keep this thread easier to navigate

Here is an index of the lenses submitted to date: (Will try to update this index regularly, but make sure to identify lens in the title)

has anyone tried the quantaray 28-90 AF macro on the q or q10?

I have one I got with my zx-l - it's nice and small (much smaller than my Tamron 28-200) and has an aperture ring (which the Tamron doesn't).

I'm going to try it with the Q10 when it arrives - seems like it will be a good pairing size-wise to carry around.

---------- Post added 07-26-15 at 03:14 AM ----------

seems like it might be a good short to mid zoom - though its a bit big.

Does have a nice smooth focus, though a bit loose...

we'll see

Greeting. Long time not posting. Been busy with other formats but I used Q quite frequently. A

Schneider cine Xenon 13mm f1.5 d-mount . The design is 9-element I think. Lovely sharp len with creamy DOF. One of my favorite cine lens

On Q

Wollensak-Keystone 1 inch f/2.5 Cine Raptar

This is a fixed focus C mount lens with "bright", "hazy" and "dull" markers for "summer" and "winter" f-stop positions. Don't worry, it also has numbers on the other side of the dial.

It's fixed focus, but if your object is 4 meters or more away, you're OK.

If you want to go closer, you can unscrew the lens a bit. The flower shot below was done this way, it was maybe 3 feet away. Or you can use a spacer or two to go really closer. I used 2 pieces of 5mm spacers for praying mantis.

When using spacers, I change the distance between the lens and the object to focus, so using a tripod is not very practical. I've shot the praying mantis bracing my hands/arms against the wall the animal was on. I was happy to capture the compound eye cells.

Okay, a request here. I've been eyeballing a few old Tamrons, in particular the 300mm f2.8 SP Adaptall2 lenses, and was wondering if anyone had one to test? Apparently those lenses where very sharp for long, fast telephotos (We're talking, like, around 45-50 lpm wide open apparently) and I was wondering how they held up on the Q.

Probably going to hunt one down reguardless, but still, Hoping someone has one to show off.
I have that setup and it works very well. Obviously, much cleaner on the Q7/QS-1. Here's a search link on Flickr for the combo https://www.flickr.com/search/?q=pentax%20q%2060b

Here is a comparison set I made between a K5 with the 60B and the Q with a 1000mm mirror here https://flic.kr/s/aHsjFYxhDG

That Rubinar is way way sharper on the Q than I expected. Holy shoot. https://flic.kr/p/eJRnK5 Might have to steal my Friends, or get the local Importer/Lens tech to snag me a realigned one...

Tamron is hella impressive as well. Definitely on the list now...

This is close to nearest focusing distance, wide open. I'll add a few pics to this post in the future.

It was fairly early in the morning, I'll try and add some better shots with this setup in better light.

SMC Pentax M 100/4 Macro

I tested today my new SMC Pentax M 100/4 Macro and it seems to be real keeper quality- wise on the Q and handholdable . All images wide open on the genuine Q, foggy weather - so better results are most probably achievable.
All images processed in RawTherapee and sharpened after web-resize. I have to test this one on 5.6 (not enough light today) also and against M 135/3.5 (I hope 100 mm might be better choice for hand-held shots even then M 135). Sorry for boring subjects, but I wanted to check for abberations. First 4 images are full frames, the last one is 100% crop.

Real zoom on my Q10, works nicely in the sun, used it with a C mount adaptor, lens is not easy to focus.

Sleek and slim, this Cooke Triplet is a little low in contrast, but is reasonably sharp across the frame and low on fringing.

I've seen this in Chrome and Black versions. Best aperture is 5.6.

Please use the BBCode url from Photobucket so your pics will show in line.

I don't have the faintest idea what you are talking about. My images seem to work just fine. What is BBCode? What line are you talking about?
So that your image will show here on the forum without having to click on it. On the photobucket page see "share this photo" and choose the one that says "IMG" with the 'URL' tag.

And then we can see this here, like so.
