All of my cameras for the last decade or so have automatically rotated a portrait image... the Q doesn't. The images show up on the screen unrotated, and they're unrotated after copying off as well -- no rotation info is saved in the EXIF (or wherever it's saved)

Is there a setting I'm missing, or is that just how the Q is?

Mine has not arrived from shopnbc yet, currently lost in the UPS system, but the specs listed at dpreview Pentax Q: Digital Photography Review state the Q does not have an orientation sensor.

As small as the Q is, I think I'd prefer it didn't rotate the photo on the screen. That would make it pretty tiny. It's easy enough to rotate it in post. My *ist DS doesn't rotate the pics. I don't think my wife's K100D does, either.

you can rotate it in the camera;
press 'play' button; press WB toggle; choose Image Rotation
