Adorama want almost half the cost of the adapter for shipping........
If you email me directly: Helen@adorama.com we can look at whether there may be any more economical shipping methods available.

I finally managed to get my Tair 3-PhS focusing to infinity, thank god...

So I immediately put it on a 2x TC and the Q adapter of course 300mm lens @ f8 + 2x TC + Pentax Q = 3300mm f16 equivalent, the moon was larger than a full frame, this is 7 shots quickly stitched in Autopano...

I finally got a clear enough night since finishing off my barn door tracker to try it out, since its a little small and flimsy I thought a good first test would be the Q+01 lens since its light, and I can shoot 30' exposures. I didnt try aligning by sight, I just used my phone as a compass for direction (South), location (to get the latitude) and level to set the angle to my current latitude. When using a longer lens I plan to set alignment like this followed by a little bit more drift alignment.

It works! This is a 100% of the WORST exposure (tracking wise) @ 30 secs

And this is the BEST @ 30 secs

After this I toned it down to 15 secs but higher ISO for 13 shots, before the clouds came over

I then quickly stacked what I had (+4 dark frames) in DeepSkyStacker for this result (4x 30' ISO 125 f2.8, 13x 15' ISO 200 f2.8, 4x DARK 15' ISO 200). Only a small portion of the frame here...

And this is what it looks like....

4x AA into ebay $1.50 buck regulator into ebay $7 3v 3rpm motor + some 48p pinion gears, some bent M6 threaded rod and a couple more bits to put it all together...

Some adjustments to be made with the gearing so I can run a bit more voltage & higher torque and the rod radius could use some tidying as well. Once I improve tracking a little more the next test will probably be the 30mm f1.4 on the Q (~165mm equiv) before I move onto astro with the K-5 & the 70-200mm or Tair 300mm and take the setup travelling out of the backyard to where the skies are darker!

hello, i want to buy a Q, i also have a telescope, a Celestron nexstar 4se, what i want to know is if i put the Q in the prime focus with a Q to T adapter like the kipon one (Amazon.com: Kipon T2 Mount Lens to Pentax Q Camera Body Adapter: Camera & Photo ) i'll be able to do long exposures to take pictures from M42 or other bright deep sky objects?

The maximum shutter length when using adapted lenses on the Q is only 2 secs. However if you use the Pentax K mount to Q mount adapter you can do long exposures. This is because the Q body has no shutter. Shutters are part of the Q lenses, and in the Pentax adapter. You would then need a T mount to K adapter for adapting the adapter to your scope!

Hope this helps a little

Hi, fellow Pentaxians and astro photographers!
Long story short: I got my hands on a used Coronado 60 solar scope this winter. Problem was that a DSLR could not focus in prime focus on the scope. I had to use a Barlow lens to get infinity focus. That degraded the image somewhat. I then got the idea to try a Pentax Q, because of the very short flange-to-sensor distance. Problem no. 2 arose very soon after I got the Q7 in the mail. To get a T-mount adapter, I had to use a DSLR adapter first. Today I solved the problem. I got a D-mount adapter in the mail, and I glued the thread-ring of a standard T-mount adapter to it via a thin metal sheet. Anyways, now I get prime focus on the Coronado. Resolution is way above anything I have encountered. The Q system is fantastic for solar system objects. This image of the sun is just one exposure. No stacking. Have to practice my PP skills. Very difficult subject matter! NB! There is something wrong with uploading the image, it gets down-scaled from 400 to 68kb. It looks terrible. I'll just post it anyway. Sorry about that.

Have a look here:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/12-post-your-photos/6-how-upload-photos-b...tart-here.html

For attached images you need to keep them to 1280x800 or smaller to avoid automatic re-sizing.
