How is the LCD in bright sunshine?

Living in South Florida can be murder on seeing into a LCD screen on a camera. How does the Q fare?

Terrible.
I crank up the brightness, and can only see my reflection
Unsure whether it's my screen protector though.

Agree, it is hopeless in the bright NZ. Makes it a true point and shoot (point and hope for the best)

It's been ok so far here in Southern California cranked all the way up. But it's winter and I hold no hope of it working well in summer. I bought a hood for the screen though and it works great.

The Hoodman hood loupe is pricy but I think it's worth it for critical focus work and/or dealing with bright light. Bright light can still be an issue if it's coming from the side, at least if you're wearing glasses, but then you can shade your eye with a hand pretty easily.

For casual shooting in sunshine I use a tele-wide optical viewfinder.
For adapted lenses I use a cheap magnetic hood loupe made for the Nikon 1.

I use the same one as Crewl1. I got mine off ebay and you can search there, or here is a link that someone else posted:

LCD Viewfinder, V5 LCD Viewfinder 2.8x3" Magnifier Eyecup Hood for Nikon 1 | Meritline.com

When you get it it fits pretty good but makes some of the buttons a bit difficult to get to. Crewl1 showed how he modified his to fit better here:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-q/189966-what-q-accessories-worth-9.html#post2252478

I haven't modified mine yet but plan to very soon.

I also have that same hood. I had to modify mine, because my screen protector (Accmaxx I think) is pretty thick, and it didn't fit at all without modification. There's some distortion in the finder, but it works well. Nice big rubber eyecup to keep light out. (The whole thing flips over to switch which eye the cup fits.)

+1 for the Nikon 1 hood, I've had mine for over a year and used it on several P&S cameras. It has seen more use on my Q than any other camera.

Wonder why you would need this on a Nikon 1 V1?

you don't need it with the V1.

it is marked for the Nikon 1... that includes the J1, J2, J3 and S1 which do not have a built in EVF like the V1 and V2

Yep. I have the same one. Works incredibly well, though the metal frame is prone to bending if you don't pull the loupe off correctly. (Break the bottom off first & pull up.) Great accessory for the price. Indispensable, really.

In bright sun I wear a broad-brimmed hat (Tilley Hat) anyway for sun protection. Since I keep my hands close to my body the hat brim usually shades the LCD - bright sun almost never obscures the LCD.
