Q vs K10D

I was curious about how far off from an older generation DSLR the Q was so I borrowed my K10D back from my daughter and ran a little test. It is not a full comparison at all ISO's and settings but it is where I have tried to use each camera and lens at their best. I would appreciate feedback as I can do further testing.
My blog post about it is here Pentax Q vs K10D | Wallace Koopmans Artlog

The focus point is not the same on both pictures. For the Q the focus is on the 'Wescon' while the K10D is on the ruler/Autorol...

You need to have the same focus point in order as starter.

Aperture...

f3.5 vs 7.1 isn't exactly fare, either.

Cheers,

With the Q, go beyond f5.6 and you are in the diffraction territory. Q's small sensor has deep DOF, OP was trying to equalize the apparent DOF of the two dissimilar cameras.

Then I suspect he should have stopped the K10 down more (or the Q less). At far distances f/3.5 on the Q should be the same as f/13 on the K10, at close distances the difference is smaller, but probably not as small as in this test. More diffraction on the Q at 3.5 than the K10 at 7.1 at any rate.

You are probably right but I don't think the OP was even attempting to test his gear that adhere to any standardized method. He compared the DOF of Q+01 at f3.5 and the DOF of K10D+35 Limited at f7.1 and deemed it similar for his needs. Yes, the test is flawed in too many ways, rendering the results more or less useless but still his blog was an interesting read.

The difference in sensor size really renders any discussion of equivelent DOF rediculious. I mearly used each lens within it's best MTF range. I agree the focus is different and is regratable but came about because I used the K10D second and while it appeared that the focus point was in the same spot on the Fuji film package the K10D has a limited focus point selection.

As I stated I'm not interested in doing a test at all settings and apertures I'm working from the idea of what will produce the best result for this camera lens combination which is a real world decision that I make all the time.
