I've been very disappointed in super low light situations with fast moving toddlers. I feel like I've gotten better shots with my phone.....
I understand your pain, Like Larry said try denoise or bump up the in camera high ISO NR a bit. The in camera noise reduction isn't bad if you don't have the software to do it. And as for you phone remember you are looking at those images in a very small screen, they fall apart after you import them and look at them on a monitor.

How does the Q7 sensor compare to the original Q/Q10?

That is a good point. I've stopped shooting in low light for now and just rely on it in good lighting. Since the firmware upgrade things seemed to have improved slightly but I haven't really given it a proper go in not so well lit areas again. IQ wise it doesn't come up to scratch compared to my k-01 but I guess it really is comparing oranges to apples. I guess in my unrealistic mind, with the way technology goes these days I just expect a dslr mirrrorless camera to outperform your every day phone or whatever, regardless of size of sensor etc.

And when I said 'my phone' I really meant I was comparing shots taken with my friend's iphones compared to my noisy ones taken on the q, both imported into facebook (where we share our photos for the mother's group).

I will look into the high ISO NR. Perhaps that will make a difference.

The Q7 can go a stop or two higher ISO before you get comparable noise vs the Q.

I'd love to see the flash on the next iteration of the Q to be tiltable.

Not yet, but it would be a great feature for a small sensor camera.

I suspect that this has not been offered because the flashes are too low power to work when bounced, effectively doubling the distance.

There is a thread in this forum that discusses some small flashes with tilt feature that can be used on the Q.

I wish Pentax would offer a small dedicated flash for the Q. IMHO it would suddenly be first thought of as a capable system rather than a fun camera (though of course we know better).

Good points. I'll have to look into that thread.
