Pentax Q Firmware 1.11

made a pentax q video test with the pentax q firmware 1.11.

I tried a few shots with tone expansion before FW 1.11. It produced a very extreme HDR type effect with halos around most of the main objects in the photo. I found it quite worthless (one mans opinion) and will not miss it at all. I could produce similar effects in Artizen HDR using their tone mapping feature in the extreme ie over 'cooking' the image. Whether Pentax meant tone expansion to be tone mapping i couldn't say.

just did the firmware update...YIKES!!! AF speed is very impressive and thats the 02 lens indoors at night. It really feels close to the om-d in speed. just need them to bring out some more lenses now

This wait for an official response from Pentax is driving me crazy! I want this new Firmware and the much improved AF but I really do not like my camera to be buggy or what not. Maybe it is a stupid question but can you "downgrade" the firmware once it is upgraded?

haven't tried downgrading but you can re-load the existing firmware on for some reason.

With exisiting you mean the 1.11 FW right? Yeah I'll probably wait a few more days and if there is no announcement from Pentax I will just risk it, since I did not use the Tone Expansion filter once since I got the camera.

There is no mention of Tone Mapping in the Manual..

Tone Expansion is also a filter available in the K-01.
Has anyone compared the Q's TE with the TE from the K-01 ?

if you have 1.10 you can re-load 1.10, or 1.11 you can re-load 1.11 on. don't know why you can...maybe pentax think that the q could be prone to crashing and have left the ability to re-load your current firmware on to get it back up and running??

This is the best explanation of Tone Expansion I've been able to find from an official PENTAX source;

I just had a tchat with someone from pentax america and he was saying that he doesn't know anything about the firmware update and the bug.

I didn't download immediately.
Went to download today, and the page now says the following:

Thank you for using a PENTAX Q digital camera.
PENTAX wishes to announce the release of Firmware Update Software Version 1.11 for PENTAX Q.
Firmware in this document is the software that runs inside digital cameras.
We are sorry to inform you that the software version 1.11 is temporary not available.

I haven't encountered any issues with it & installed the first day it was announced.

I couldn't wait and also installed 1.11 No issues except the reset of "0" shutter count and the "Tone Expansion" thing but both don't bother me, I like the AF speed
