Testing before & after the firmware upgrade with the 02 lens in dim indoor lighting conditions, I can verify that the AF speed after the upgrade is more than twice as fast as with the prior FW version. Definitely worth doing, IMO.

compared the two Q that we own at home, mine with 1.11, and my wife's one on 1.10.

cameras on table, pointing to the same thing, using one remote for both cameras at the same time.
>focus function and the focus is really faster on 1.11

the 1.11 seems to focus where the 1.10 doesn't, on extreme close focus stuff for exemple.

Fastest AF of any Pentax I own

I just updated both Q's.

The headline says it all. In a dim room with light walls and little contrast AF is nearly instantaneous from near-macro range directly to 25 feet using the 01 Prime at f2.8 and Auto ISO.

Maybe we'll get a similar update for the K-01!

Wow, I wasn't expecting much of a difference. I don't know that it has improved speed, as it is roughly the same speed in good light, but accuracy. Wish I had this a couple of weeks ago.

By reding the Ricoh forum on DPReview, I was under the impression that Ricoh (before buying Pentax) frequently improved and updated the firmware of their cameras, even if they'd been discontinued and were no longer available to buy new.

Maybe Ricoh camera owners can confirm with first-hand experience.

I think that firmware improvement policy is now being applied to Pentax branded products. And I think it is a great confidence and loyalty building policy.

Cheers,
Ricoh typically updates the firmware at least 2 to 3 times a year and for at least 2 years since the release of the camera.

I'm seeing the improvement too

I found a closet that was dark enough that the Q just failed to focus with 1.10 after the update it easily focuses under the same conditions. Great! Thanks Pentax

Also, thanks to the OP for posting a direct link. I fumbled around the Pentax website for a while today trying to find it!

The update is great! Speed improvements are very noticeable on both my 01 and 02.

Glad I checked the forums today and saw this treat. Really improved my 02 lens from where it was barely focusing indoors to now being super quick. Thanks!

Wow, it can focus with the 02 zoom on F2.8 in only lit by a laptop screen. Way better than what I possibly can do with manual focus and I'm sure that my K-5 would struggle even with a F1.4 lens. Like a new camera for low light!

Yeah. AF is so much faster now. I even find the af tracking for 01 lens usable indoor
