Pentax Q Firmware 1.11

Pentax has just released a new version of the firmware for the Q. It supposedly improves AF performance.

Wow, are you kidding? Are there still firmware support for the old model? In short, I'm surprised and this makes me a happy Qser!

Well, that's probably because the two are so similar The Q10 just has a different body and modified NR processing / firmware.

Still, it often seems like companies don't care about older models, to force you to upgrade to get any support. From the sound of it, as I'm a pretty new photographer, that seemed to be the Pentax philosophy under Hoya. But anyway, at least it's nice to see that they keep on supporting the old Q, despite killing almost every potential reasons to upgrade to the newer model. That actually makes me more willing to buy their future cameras.

Why buy the new one if everyone bashes the older model?

The update made big improvements to low light focusing. I've been walking around my dark living room with the AF assist light off

Ricoh policy

By reding the Ricoh forum on DPReview, I was under the impression that Ricoh (before buying Pentax) frequently improved and updated the firmware of their cameras, even if they'd been discontinued and were no longer available to buy new.

Maybe Ricoh camera owners can confirm with first-hand experience.

I think that firmware improvement policy is now being applied to Pentax branded products. And I think it is a great confidence and loyalty building policy.

Cheers,

AF is super fast, amazing.
It is now almost as fast as the best AF in M43 system.

Yes! Very nice. I tried the similar scenario in video and also walked around fairly dark living room and find the AF improved.

Good going Pentax!

Nice!

The 06 tele zoom AF is actually usable indoors now!

I hope there are some additional useful hidden updates that we can discover.
