Prime 1 alternative?

Is there a more cost effective Prime 1 alternative lens with comparable quality or better?

I don't think there are any third-party native Q lenses. Adapter K mount lenses work well, but you won't get as wide of a FOV.

No. Sorry, the 01 is a very nice lens and there is nothing else I know of that gets you the focal length and the f-stop of the 01.

I've got the same problem. I bought the body only, and I should have bought it with a lens. My NEX is small enough though, so there's no compelling reason to pay $200+ for a lens. I'll just have to use it for its intended purpose, birding.

P.S. There is a sticky at the top of the Q forum where users have tested various lenses, including C-mounts. They'd be manual focus, but you can get close to the focal length.

I bought an 8mm / 1.4 Computar C-mount lens for $6 that would be a perfect walkaround "normal" prime, IF it didn't have a fixed aperture of f:1.4. :-/ Still pretty cool, though.

That's an idea, thanks. I think I can handle wide open 1.4 with the Q.

I'm really surprised the 01 isn't available from an authorized Pentax dealer yet. The Q10 has been out for a couple of months and if I were in marketing, which I'm not, I would want to have that lens available when folks are purchasing the body.

This.

I'm sure glad I got one with my ur-Q. I tried to be understanding when it wasn't available on day one with the Q10 or in Q10 kits, but this has gone on long enough.

I was imagining that they wanted to reduce inventory on the relatively slow-selling 02 by making that the primary bundle for Q10. This is exactly the kind of boneheaded neglect that makes me fear for Pentax-Ricoh's commitment to the Q system. They addressed my #1 concern by finally releasing the 06, and #2 with a pretty good Q-K adapter (though I don't have one of these yet).

WTH is Pentax thinking?

I have both the 01 and 02 by having done just that in order to keep costs down. I'm so much more impressed with the 01 than the 02 its not even close.

There are only two native 3rd party lenses, One is the MS Optical Sonnetar 25mm f1.1 and the SLR Magic 11mm f1.4 which is like shooting a 40 on a aps-c so in the "normal" range if a little long, is a really nice lens...

The prime 01 has very good sharpness, built in shutter, built in ND filter, very small size.
No other lenses are about as good.

You can get some very good C mount lenses (like Angenieux, Taylor Hobson, or D mount Schneider) but they are not cheap at all.

The problem with that one is that it costs about as much as the 01, and has no AF, no automation & no shutter. (It also vignettes on m4/3rds cameras. Not sure about the Q.) If it were significantly less money, it'd be worth it. But at that price, why bother?

I wish Fujian would come out with a shorter lens similar to their 35mm / 1.7. That's a great little lens and it's $25. Bet they'd sell a ton of 'em. By the way, SLR Magic also sells the same $25 Fujian 35 with their brand on it for $150, which is a massive ripoff, IMO.

That's missing the point though. The lens should be available to new Q10 buyers (or buyers of the Q+02 kit like myself) without having to go through all of that.

True.. I have become so impressed with he performance of the 01 over that of the 02, that I now mostly leave the 02 at home.

It would be odd if Pentax stopped selling the 01 alone, and I don't think that they are, globally....at least, I saw a pile of 01-boxes in a camera shop in Japan as late as last Thursday. Might be just the US branch of Pentax doing inexplicable things once more?
