So depressed

I took over 90 pictures with the Pentax Q, X-Pro1 and OM-D. When I got home I inserted it into my SDHC card reader.. I thought there was something strange when I inserted it and it make a cracking sound.. when I clicked on my drive i got this message "No card inserted" Took it out and put it on my camera "No card" I can't believe what just happened.. my 32GB Sandisk Extreme Pro 40mb/s just got killed.. All those shots gone... I will re-take all these pictures again but I need to know from you guys what do you think of this card? Will it work on the Pentax Q? Genuine SEALED Sony 32 GB 94 MB s SF 32UX TQ1 UHS I SDHC Memory Card for DSLR | eBay I think it's pretty cheap and plan on buying 2. So sad but this won't stop me from doing my huge update.

Go check the pentax price watch section. They have the cards cheaper there. Also, you card may be under warranty, so check that for a replacement.

With the right kid of external reader, you should still be able to get the data off the card. I had the casing of one if my cards fail on me, and only a cheap external that I got off of amazon was able to read it.

Hi Grimmy,

I seem to be one of the few who is not a fan of the Sandisk cards. I've had 3 different Extreme IIIs from two different production lots where the lock tab broke off and made the card useless. I've never had this happen with any other brand, and I've tried a lot of cards since I got my first digital cam in 2000. IMO, Sandisk deserves kudos for making fast cards and advertising pretty accurate speeds. They are probably the most recommended brand, but I will no longer pay the premium price they seem to command. I've had better service from some very minor brands. I basically look for write speeds at or over 20 MB/sec so the card doesn't slow down my shooting and a lifetime warranty when I shop for cards. A brand name that I recognize is a major plus. Personally, I've always gotten very good service from Transcends over the years.

Your card is under warranty. It won't save the pics you lost, but you can at least get a replacement for the card.

Scott

The data may still be in there. Maybe you can bring it to a specialist shop that can recover it?

Sorry for the lose but I probably wouldn't buy memory cards from eBay. There are simply too many fakes even if they claim to be genuine.

I do NOT buy SD cards from other then genuine well-known companies, ever. Fakes abound on eBay and elsewhere and you just can't know if you are getting a real SanDisk card unless it comes from somewhere reputable.

If you can find someway to get that card be recognized in a reader, you could try this to recover your photos:

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download

Two years ago I went for a really long solo bike ride, from Vancouver to San Francisco. As you can imagine, I took a zillion pictures. I only had my Android phone at the time. I was staying with a friend in San Fran when I hooked up my Android to his MacBook, well they got into a fight and all my pics got deleted. I used the program above to recover between 90-95% of the pictures.

It might work for you. Good luck.

One of my SD cards stopped working recently. Between each connector there's a raised plastic separator and one of those had broken and was preventing the connection of one of the metal connectors so I snapped the rest of it off and the card worked again. You might want to inspect the card for something similar.. although that crackling sound you mention cannot be a good sign.

Thanks for the concerns guys. I tried those methods but still not go so I will be sending my card back to Sandisk and will lose all of the pictures I took. I already ordered a new card and will take more pictures Saturday.

Less wear on you memory cards if you download through the cable to PC, of course that's more wear on you cable connection. Which is best or worse? I don't know but I use the cable more just because it's easier.

I wouldn't buy memory cards on ebay either unless it's from a reputable store, especially when you can usually get them pretty cheap at newegg, B&H, Adorama, or Micro Center. Memory cards are one of the most counterfeited items there are. In fact I would be wary of any "name brand" items sold out of China.
