Don't want to derail this thread but I dont think my newb question deserves a thread of its own.

My 06 doesnt focus at the the lower ranges, 15-24mm on subjects approximately between 0 to 30cm. Is this normal for a telephoto lens. Im a newb, first "real" camera, just want to make sure everything ok.

oh. thanks. Is this in the manual? I just found it interesting that the 02 lens could focus on the same objects at the 15mm, must have a smaller minimum range.

It is in the lens manual, I noted it yesterday when I got mine. I also found that I get caught short sometimes that way - I'm not used to holding a camera at almost arms length, and find I'm a little too close quite often.

My 9 day old 06 just died an hour ago
Doesn't focus at any range. Camera won't fire.
Doesn't even manually focus using the ring.
Wasn't dropped. Was working fine a few hours earlier.
Have contacted Pentax Australia ( bought it direct)..

So it seems the 06 is prone to a few issues. What a shame, such a brilliant lens when it works.

Please let us know how it works out in the end. I want to purchase this lens, and found one that I believe might be gray market for $50 less than our regular vendors (BigValue through rakuten.com). I am of course a little leery since there seems to have been some 06 lenses that have been defective. But, $50 is $50.........

Mine just broke too. I'm planning to be pleased that it's not from some semi-shady seller.

That makes my point clear now - I'll wait until one or our regular vendors shows a discount.

My 06 is good through most of its range, but at the long end the corner sharpness is *hideous* until f/8.0.
I will be very interested to see how it fares on the Q7.

It stopped focusing (for no obvious reason). Everything else works, as long as I want focus where it is (pretty close). It also makes a strange noise sort of like an 8bit video game.
