Thanks guys. Still learning the basics of aerial pole photography. It is challenging. Big thanks to digital029art, and everyone else for tips.

My first exposure to pole photography was in the '70s. Wandered into the museum under the St. Louis Arch and viewed a photography exhibition by the great Peter B. Kaplan. He photographed the arch from outside, standing on its top! He used a Nikon slr ( F or F2) with fisheye lens and long pole. The arch looked like a diamond ring with the sun peeking out around it. One of the most amazing photo exhibits I have ever seen. Check out his incredible images.

thanks

digital029art, sorry to hear about your injured Q. Doesn't sound too expensive to fix. Most screen covers are held in with double stick tape. Once you talk to Lynn ask if anything besides the glass is needed for replacement. I have seen strange omissions from other companies. Should not cost much to replace.

Shooting the 02 zoom at infinity. Can't we put lens on manual focus, and tape or rubber band the focus ring to lock it at infiniy? Would only require focusing before raising the pole. At 5mm everything should be at infinity using a long pole.
thanks

I expect this should work. I have done some time lapse this way.

This is an often shot covered bridge in my area. Wanted to try something different. I am standing behind the big fence on the left. Hoisted the Q with FE 12 ft, out over the water, to get the water inlet in front of the covered bridge. Camera was set to intravalometer and AV exposure mode at -2/3 step exposure compensation. The pole was angled down so I had to shoot the Q hanging upside down to level the horizon.

Since I don't have a video feed for the pole framing, was by guess. Took lots of shots with intravalometer and slightly moved camera to get different image for every shot. I am rigging video up for more refined shooting.

thanks

The Q is fun!
