Interesting, so the Q7 crops it's 12M sensor when using the 03 fisheye. Then this means that the Q7 with 03 is actually giving you less resolution that the original flavor Q ?
Fewer pixels, probably not less resolution.

Also someone else showed it to be a little wider on the Q7. (Still cropped, but not quite down to Q sensor size.)

Drougge, is the Q7 with 03 the same image crop in raw and jpeg

Unlikely, since aspect settings don't crop the raw. It probably contains cropping information that some raw converters may enforce though. I'd need to see such a raw to be sure.

I was wondering if the raw image showed corner vignetting when using the 03 lens

The in camera crop for the 03 lens should be deactivated in the Q7 if you insulate the lens contacts when mounting the 03, it would be interesting to see what the outcome would look like.

Comparison photos with 03 on Q, Q7 default, Q7 blocked contacts.
I kept the tree across the street in the center of grid.
Hardest part was trying to use non adhesive plastic sheet as to not get any residue on the contacts.
I thought I had focused the 03 properly on the Q, but the on the Q7 it looks so much better!
I did not do any sharpening or image adjustments.

Wow that's what I had assumed would happen, Now it would be nice to have the option to crop or not to crop. My 03 should arrive today I will have to try this on my Q but I am not holding my breath for a wider view. Thanks Larry

Cool comparison crewl1. With the Q7 the fisheye is even more fisheye. Then block the contacts and wow, even fishier. So much to think about now.
thanks

Not optional in the menu. The 03 deactivates the lens correction feature, this would have been the obvious place to leave the choice.

To block the contacts I had to cut a thin cellophane sheet in a curve to drop into the lens over the contact slot.
I tried first just putting in the lens rotated part way in the bayonet but the camera would not show an image as it had already shorted some contacts.

I guess if you like the version with the vignetted corners you could make the mod more permanent with a piece of tape.

My pleasure! The Q7 really is an improved Q as far as performance and IQ.

Thanks for the comparisons Larry, just what I wanted to see! Could you put up 100% crops of same so we can see the resolution difference? Thx!

It's not because of the contacts, it's pushing in the lens release pin.

Or shoot raw, I'm still assuming you get the whole image there. (Unverified, but likely.)

RAW or JPEG show the same resulting crop of the 03 on the Q7 when the lens is recognized by the camera.
Only way around it is to defeat the communication with the lens.

Are you sure? I don't mean to imply you don't get that result, but do you know that it's not just your raw processor enforcing crop information in the DNG? (Once again, I'm basing this on my experience that setting the aspect has no effect on what is recorded in the DNG on the original Q, except the embedded JPEG and crop info.)

The easiest way to shut me up about this would probably be to provide such a raw to look at. (After I report on whatever I find in it of course.)
