Own a Q, any point getting discounted K-01?

I own a Q with the 01, 02, 03 and 06 lenses.

I was currently researching what adapted lenses I would get when i stumbled across the K-01 with the DAL18-55mm lens at a discounted price of $320 aud. This got me thinking that if I was to get these adapted lenses, is it worth getting the K-01 so that I could use the lenses on it also.

I am new to the realm of photography and thus far I haven't pigeon holed myself into any particular aspect of photography and am enjoying the diversity. Although on the weekend I enjoyed trying to take snaps of flying sea eagles on the q 06 lens, unfortunately didn't have enough range to get a close up. I think i would also enjoy the macro side of things and taking scenic nature shots.

Bearing the above in mind, would it be worth spending the cash or should I just stick to the Q and spend the cash on adapted lenses.

I hope i am posting this in the right forum. Thanks for any help in advance.

I would get one for the upgrade in IQ on full resolution photos.

I own both and they do different things in different ways. The IQ on the K-01 is very good and it takes the K mount lenses natively. I do find however that I use my K-5IIs most, my Q next, and my K-01 least.

I'd look for a used K-5, myself, instead of the K-01. I think it's just a way-more-capable camera. It would likely be more expensive than the K-01, though.

Does the Q meet all your needs?
If you get the K-01, I suggest you get it with DA 40mm XS, not 18-55mm. The 40mm is a much better lens, a real joy to use. I have a K-01 and love it, so I would definietly recommend it. Even if you get one second hand for under $250. And its great with older manual glass, like the M 50mm f1.7. The K-01 is not a true DSLR, but it has the same sensor and can make stunning photos.

I take the Q with me when I need a cheap, small camera that takes decent shots in good light.

I take the K-01 with me when I need superb quality in all light -- especially low light. It's bigger and heavier, but when it comes to image quality it blows the Q out of the water. And my K-x for that matter. At ISO3200 the K-01 looks better than the Q at ISO400. And ISO6400 on the K-01 looks better than ISO800 on the Q. So, you have a lot more light to work with. Throw a 50mm f1.7 (or 1.4) on there and be absolutely amazed. Although the 40mm XS kit lens is very good too.

Different cameras for different situations.

Charles.

I'd say if you already own a DSLR, no... If you don't have a DSLR, the K-01 will get you DSLR image quality at a bargain basement price. (But then again, so will a used DSLR.)

As owner of both Q and k-01, I find that they are different cameras for different applications. IMHO you would want both especially since k-01 is dirt cheap if you want better quality pictures like DSLR. I also find that the k-01 provides better video options as well.

I replaced my k-7 with k-01 as a backup to my k-5; couldn't be happier although sometimes I missed the optical viewfinder on the k-01.

Have some thinking to do. The main advantage that I can see is its use in low light situations.

It would have made the choice easier if it included the 40mm lens.

Depends where you live. Check out the price watch forums. The K-01 was sold literally for under $300. At that price, its a steal

You can pick up a K30 for $345 from Amazon ( just received mine) It has the IQ of the K01 plus a optical finder making it much better for sports and chasing the grand kids around.

You know you want it...

Worst case scenario is you buy it, try it out and decide you don't like it and have to sell it for a bit less than you paid for it. Still, at the price it is at, it doesn't hurt to try. I was a critic of the K-01 but once I got one, I really like it; nice capable camera, but handling it a little awkward at first if you're coming from a DSLR. And as mentioned above, small primes are best on the K-01.

That's crazy! From what seller, was it new? Used?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. I love my blue baby.
