I would take this as meaning it's compatible with Eye-Fi SD cards...

No built in WiFi just specifically set up to utilize wifi SD cards without any problems according to the English version of Pentax Japan's Q7 site.

That is what I already said.

But here is some interesting data:
The sensor has no lowpass filter, dust reduction, and an IR pass filter, with improved shake reduction said to give 3 stops vs 2 stops on the Q10. The rear features a 3inch screen, with a new anti-reflective coating, and the Q7 also introduces a dual axis electronic level, Eye-Fi compatibility, and HDR interval movie timelapse function. The camera shoots at 5fps JPEG, or RAW at 1.5fps continuous shooting.

I was rather hoping the pixel pitch would remain the same, but with a bigger sensor, but if it's 12mp, then all that means is that the sensor resolution has decreased. That said, it does make the huge number of 25mm C mounts a little more appealing.
If the claimed 60% improvement in S/N performance holds true, this will be a more than worthwhile tradeoff.

Thanks!

After a little more searching, I see that Amazon shows a release date of September 15th.

Which brings another observation - Amazon has not stocked any Pentax gear for a long time - it has all been sold by 3rd party sellers. Now when pulling up the Q7 kit, it shows "ships from and sold by Amazon". I think this is a positive note for Pentax marketing - a good thing!

It's not showing up on amazon UK yet, but I'm going to hold off until January/February in the hope a a post-launch and post-Christmas price drop, before I think seriously about upgrading.

Quite a nice feature set!

I'm curious to know about no lowpass filter - is this different from the original Q?

I've never been tempted before to be an early odopter of anything, but this Q7 sure has my interest.......and the pricing on the kit with the 02 & 06 zooms - $200 more than the body only for both lenses.

Another thing Jim Malcolm told us in the Q Users' Conference Call - Pentax worked extensively with Eye-Fi engineers to build Wi-Fi card compatibility into the Firmware and IIRC easy setup in Menu as soon as a card is inserted. The Q7 should easily bypass the cumbersome setup required the first time you connect to your home network or Wi-Fi device with an Eye-Fi card. I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes a Firmware update for older Q models if the hardware permits it.

The 02+06 kit at <$700 is a very good price IMHO. The 06 shot up in price recently and is now going for around $300 on average. The Q7 +02 is only about $20 more than the body alone - its a no brainer to get the lens with the body. On the low pass filter the Q description does not say:

"Type: Backlit CMOS w primary color filter and integrated Shake/Dust Reduction sensor-shift system Size: 1/2.3” Color depth: 8 bits/channel JPG, 12 bits/channel RAW Effective pixels: 12.4M Total pixels: 12.75M Recorded resolutions Still 4:3: 12M (4000x3000), 9M (3456x2592), 5M (2688x2016), 3M (1920x1440) Still 3:2: 10M (4000x2664), 8M (3456x2304), 5M (2688x1792), 2M (1920x1280) Still 16:9: 9M (4000x2248), 6M (3456x1944), 4M (2688x1512), 2M(1920x1080) Still 1:1: 9M (2992x2992), 6M (2592x2592), 4M (2016x2016), 2M (1440x1440) Movie (resolution/FPS): 1920x1080p30, 1280x720p30, 640x480p30 Quality levels: *** Best, ** Better, * Good Dust Removal: DRII (ultrasonic vibration to low pass filter)"

and the Q10 description at Pentax Imaging says even less.

I'd love to see the Eye-Fi added to the Q firmware. I hope they keep up the terrific practice of upgrading through firmware they have exhibited with the addition of focus peaking with the Q's latest firmware update.

Thanks Doc - the way I read it the Q has a primary color filter while the Q7 has no lowpass filter. What that actually means I don't know for sure. I'll take a look at the specs of the MX-1 to see if that confuses the issue some more
