That 23-68mm range is wonderful news. I was going to get an LX7 because i think the 24mm equivalent is a lot more useful on the wide end than 100-130mm is on the long end.

Also, the Q7 is claimed to have 3 stops effective SR where the Q/Q10 had 2 stops.
SARCASM-ON You mean, nobody sued them, so they shifted to higher gear? SARCASM-OFF

They just need to make the 55-300 WR first to offer full WR kits like that.
I think I would buy a K50 kit just for that lens!

Agree! The two zoom lenses are great FL now - also more than willing to sacrifice some adapted lens range for better PQ.

I am definitely interested in the tele macro as long as it's going to be a standard macro like every other 90-110mm macro out there. I basically have my trigger finger ready to preorder it.

I would also be interested in a superzoom (not on the roadmap), but I'm wary of the zooms now since there have been some reports of defective ones. I know, lemons and such, but the zooms are low priority for me anyways. I just feel like the Q is meant to be a prime system.

I don't think anyone has noted in this thread that some lenses do not accommodate the 1/1.7" sensor image circle They are automatically cropped in camera on a Q7. Because of this, the chart in the original post is not accurate.

"The 01, 02, 06, and 07 lenses are fully compatible with the 1/1.7-inch size. The ratio for the lens focal length equivalent in 35 mm format has become approximately 4.6. For the 03, 04, and 05 lenses, images are recorded after trimming processing for an angle of view optimized to the image circle of each."

Yes, I'm curious about the results for this; the 03, 04 and 05 lenses clearly don't produce an image that fills the 1/1.7 sensor. So, in the automatic cropping do they
a) produce smaller images (so instead of 4000 x 3000, we may, say, get 3600 x 3000).
or
b) resample the image in camera from a proportional crop area to produce the same resolution pictures as originally (so, for example, the Q7 may take a 3200 x 2400 section from the centre of the image, but then resample that in-camera to 4000 x 3000 and save that).
or
c) produce smaller images, but maintain the original aspect ration (e.g. 3600 x 2700 or 3200 x 2400).

Indeed, you see that on the roadmap posted above.

05 Toy Lens Telephoto has a focal length (35mm equivalent) of 100mm on Q/Q10 and 94mm on Q7. On the latter, the simple application of the sensor size coefficient would give 83mm as a result instead of 94mm. So the image circle of this lens is only slightly bigger than 1/2.3".

So in reality some of the lenses available will perform worse on the Q7 due to cropping from a lower density sensor?

I'd love a fast tele/macro for the Q - don't care much for zooms anyways, and I - like you - feel that the Q is made for primes.

I do think that Pentax missed the boat, though, in that all but the 01 Prime are "plasticky" and while the 01 is "better", it'd be outright cool if the Q had a "Limited-quality" like lineup.

Are you listening, Pentax?
